Since bacterial cell membranes are completely different than a mamillian cell, making something that will only alter one is easy to think of. That is exactly how certian antibiotics, such as ampicillin, function. Those known as beta-lactamases clean the beta-1-4 linkages of peptidoglycan in the bacterial cell wall. This causes the cells to eventually become unstable and burst. Since our metazoan cells don't contain peptidoglycan in their cell walls, we are safe from such chemicals.
THe second point about it begin hard for bactera to evolve resistance mechanisms is a great point. Most antibiotics are isolated from bacteria themselves. So, in order for a bacteria to be able to produce antibiotics and still live... it has to be able to have a system to protect itself. The typical antibiotic/resistance genes evolve at the same time in an organism. With this new technology, the microbes will have to co-opt systems already in the cell to meet the new stresses of the nanotubules. This could in theory take longer to adapt than typical resistance mechanism.....BUT remember that by using any sort of system like this... where you are brut force killing organisms...you strongly select for individules who have the ability to survive, and pass the ability to flourish to their progeny.
Just my thoughts:)

Good luck.... considering that it doesn't have S-Video out, or a normal sound card.
That was an amazingly cool movie. Sure some of the stuff they did was a little sketchy (ie wiring up that box to the computer and being able to watch the screens of data "decrypt" in front of their eyes), but the cast was great and they really pulled it off.
It just seems like this isn't going to stand a good chance against the already established tools out there today. People have spent a lot of time learning and developing with java and javascript, not to mention such things as flash and things like that. Will people really have the time to spend on learning a new language? (even if it is cleaner or slightly easier to use?) With so many different methods out there now, I'm afraid even a good alternative will be lost inthe jumble.
No... it is more like the setup program asking you what type of video card you have. Even windows needs you to install different drivers from companies when installing new hardware or a new OS version. Also, sndconfig enables the sound card to work... period. If you are having issues within KDE... that is a whole other issue, and is probably coming from you... an issue of not turning your speakers on.
"Secondly, I shouldn't have to configure anything AT ALL after installation. "
Yea...windows is wonderful about this isn't it! DUH
Didn't Slash cover a story about a girl planning on doing this? If I remember right... she was planning on jumping from 165,000 feet or so. What cooountry was she going to be jumping for?
This one is easy guys..... for example, i have a AMD Duron 600 that I have clocked to 1050 mhz. The chip was $60 and only has a $20 hsf installed. The system it is in has been running stable for some 64 days now with no problems. This is a much cheaper alternative to buying a retail cpu.
Also, just watch for what people are searchign for and rename some files. That is always good for a laugh as well. Stile does have the perfect pics for the job:)
Well I guess anyone who has taped a song off of the radio or their favorite Simpsons episode off of tv had better look out now...someone is going to sue you.
Here is my point. The Napster software only allows people to send files to each other. The Napster servers don't actually host anything. This is similar to irc servers that allow dor DCC connections between two clients. So does this mean we will start seeing irc networks and servers being sued for what useres on the do? Truthfully, 90% of pirating actually goes on in the land of IRC, both audio and programs. Or maybe we will see the makers of mIRC getting sued now for what end users of the program are doing while online.
I think the reaction generated by all of this is just awful. The web hosting company, ran by one man, was just trying to cover his butt and make sure everything was legit. I can understand some people's complaints about backing down to FBI, but.... sending email to the web hosting service's other customers is just falk out un called for..... people think it is so good to rant, rave, and complain. But did the people writing those emails ever consider they knew nothing about the situation and put someone business and livelyhood in jeopardy? I think we should get the facts and think about the consequences of our actions before jumping off the deep end...... -Kyle
The Seti people do not want anyone using new clients for one reason....their servers cannot record and split the data into packets quick enough. Right now they are recieving more completed packets than they know how to process. It seems that their little idea caught on a little more than they expected, and they just can't keep up.
Actually if you think about evolution on a broader scale, it is a development of things from a more orderly state into one with greater disorder or entropy. Think about the origions of life on this planet; something along the lines of a protist. Now look at the diversity of life that we have today...all coming from that origional protist like "organism." So, this in fact is works right along with the Second Law, being that things tend to go toward a state of greater entropy. My two cents....
I think this is an outstanding step for the market. Any new development that add functionality, to Linux is, in my opnion, a step in the right direction. I also tend to believe that if this all works out and is becomes an in demand feature that Linus will incorporate clustering into his kernel. After all, everyone working together to make better software is what Linux is all about.

So, you think that AMD is not a "major company" worth trusting? That is interesting considering their current position in the cpu industry......
