why do people who have never been raped think they are in a position to talk about it?
saying "she could have just logged off" is no more logical then saying that a IRL rape victum could have "just ran away / called for help / fought back". Rape is NOT just a physical crime (though it may be legaly defined as such), it tears at a persons mind (be they male or female) to the point where they are often unable to act. If a person has previously been raped they are FAR FAR more likely to simply shut down to prevent the same psychological damage from happening again.
so please, people who have never had the horror of being raped, plese stop and think for a second about what you are really saying.
Canadians and those from other northen countries let out an audible "DUH!" when reading a Slashdot article that stated that solid water is slippery. Speed skaters everywhere found rolling on the floor in hystarics.
simple, fun games. The biggest names for the PS3 still arnt out, and people wont buy a consol on the expectaion of getting something worth playing later. The 360, while it does have some great games, is a bit of a one trick pony... playing to the hardcore, collage aged gamer with tones of time to play.
fun, quick games, reasonable price point, and finally doing something NEW has put the Wii on top.
oh it would work for some games... but the vast majority of FPS out right now either state, or imply that their opponents are indviduals (any WWII sim, Ghost Recon / Rainbow 6, Halos etc...)
I always get a little miffed when games use "AI" to describe what they do.
OTOH, I do see why true AI doesnt make much of a play in games... how long does the average bad guy live in a FPS anyway? If they learned from one guy to the next it would be more like a 'hive mind' then indviduals learning. For RTS games it could make a little more sence, since the "commanders" wouldnt be amung those slaughtered on the battlefield on each level. MMO's present a whole bucket of issues beyond the life span one... would they learn against EVEYONE or only their current PC opponents? if everyone, would it really be worth it as due to the MASSIVE diversity in player styles the AI would become muddied and non-specific.
makes me wonder... is this treatment only valid for early stages of infection (before the virus has had must time to reproduce) or will it work in the later stages, after the body has become totally infected?
this is true of any field tho... law, medicine, politics... and not just women. I know several men who have gone into fields just to get a big paycheque and they end up the most misserable people I know.
my grandfather had a saying... "do what you love and you never work a day in your life". It may not pay the best, but if you do what you enjoy then it stops being work and is just something you do for fun that someone is crazy enough to pay you for.
let me say this... you can change up the university degree all you want and you will not radically change the gender makeup of the student body as that is not where the problem is... it's in the highschools.
The number of girls that are presured by friends, family and even teachers to get out of maths and into the arts and social sciences is crazy. "Math just isn't a good choice for you... how about law? or history?", if this was just from other girls it wouldnt be as bad, but that quote was from my algebra teacher (a course which I got a 90% in dispite his dislike of me). Young girls are actively presured by teachers and adminsistration to avoid maths and science.
If you really want to get more girls into comp sci, stop highschool teachers from telling us what we can and can not do.
it depends on the detail and nature of the comment.
if we subsitute "get rained on" for some type of personal threat then "I hope you get rained on" will likely not warrent legal action, however "I hope you get rained on tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 while you are walking your dark brown dog on Smith St when you have your long red coat on" usually will. Setting a time and place moves it from simple speach to a threat.
of course, various jourisdictions will have different laws for treats... hate crime legislation can also play a factor.
you say you "may" be assaulted for doing your job, I actually have been. I have seen my own blood pool on a tile floor for being who I am and if there was any way I could reduce the chance of having that happen again I would do it in a second.
To say that someone should risk their life simply so YOU can get another book out of them is horribly selfish. Calling someone a coward because they wont risk being raped so they can sign your book is selfishness in the purest form.
you say you are "going to stare at that terrifying situation", those are just empty words until you actually have had someone come at you with a knife or copper pipe.... trust me, speaking from personal experience, that bravado of yours means jack squat when it actually happens. When you actually have had someone threaten your life, someone who was fully capable of doing it, had the motive, means, and opportunity, if you can tell us then that you would not take even the most remedial protective measures then you can criticize her

dig in your heals and hope no one catches on to that fact...

not according to the law.
ok, if it's spitting photos out at that speed, how many of them will be ruined because the ink wasnt dry before the second page landed on top?
