words-ripe-for-the-eating, thank you for degrading slashdot with your blog-like posting. Man, we've gone from the tabloid article to quoting some drunkard on a forum. Great, I think you managed to dip below cnn's level of reporting, if at all possible.

I must concur, posts like this should automatically cause a temporary suspension on the user's ability to post. And the more stupid posts by a user, should result in longer and longer suspensions on that user. This is a technical news website, so one should have at least a measurable IQ in order to post news stories. Its sad, more and more, I'm seeing slashdot start to look a little more like cnn, the 24 hour news tabloid. Shame on you ScuttleMonkey.

  3. They both lose on Big Releases Heat Up High-Def Format War · · Score: 1

"Choosing sides in the high-def format war becomes that much harder today, as two powerhouse movie franchises hit store shelves on opposing formats. Exclusive to Blu-ray are the first two 'Pirates of the Caribbean' flicks, while exclusive to HD DVD are two different configurations of the 'Matrix' Trilogy. "

Uh, in actuality, who really cares? I mean yeah sure a small group of people (larger on this site) with HD everything and money to burn are caring. But, I see know real good offering that either brings to the table. Sure, you get a nicer video resolution and more data space (the latter being the improvement the mass public may care about). But as someone who owns a 720p TV and an upconvert DVD player, DVDs are good enough. Before I see hi def enhancements, how about continuing the real good fight DVDs started, the fight against data loss. We no longer have analog data loss and shelf life and reuse life has improved. But we all know its to easy these days, especially with CDs to scratch that disc up and oh its now unusable. I'd like to see a far more loss proof media be introduced. Now you don't have to keep backing up your Audio media. And the shelf life of the data on computer backup media is enhanced.

  4. Re:I disagree on 4 GB May Be Vista's RAM Sweet Spot · · Score: 1

I have to say both Apple and MSFT are evil with CASHing and RAM. I recently bought a Macbook with the standard 512MB of RAM, and it behaved pathetically. Opening up word took forever. Running photoshop and illustrator simultaneously brought the machine to its knees. Oh, and I couldn't play the standard DVD player without the app crashing. And this is supposed to be a multimedia machine??? Of course, once I upgrade to 1.25 GB of RAM, everything is slick and the DVD player works fine. It is disgusting to see companies selling computers with a substandard amount of memory in them so they can charge more for the upgrade. And of course, when they give you 512MB, they split it up into 2 256MB sticks. One of my stupid questions, is why do we even bother these days in creating memory sticks 1GB in the new formats? I don't see the reasoning, unless its somehow a sort thing, where a 512MB stick is actually a 1GB stick with half the memory disabled because less than half the stick didn't pass quality control.
