  1. hmph on The Feds' Ramsey Electronics Raid Blow by Blow · · Score: 1

Well this would appear to be a huge misuse of authority. I would say that the owner of the store has a case for finding out what was in the boxes that were confiscated. Although by this time i'm sure that it is gone or disassembled.

These two companies are THE companies for digital certificates. If you ever needed to setup a secure web server or get a thrid party certificate these two were the people to see. Personally I prefer thwate because they were reasonably priced but now i have no choice. answer your questions?!

  4. *BSD v Linux. on Intel using FreeBSD · · Score: 1

In my personal experience i have had more luck using linux as a workstation while using *bsd as a server platform. As far as the MTBF goes I am guessing that this is a little bit of a fudge and a bit misleading. Chances are that they are using the death of hardware as the failure. Very rarely have a i seen an os (non MS) just stop working.

  5. Depends on the situation on Who is Responsible? The Developer? The User? · · Score: 1

I think alot of it depends on the situation.
A gun manufacturer can not be sued if one of its guns is used to kill someone. They are simply making a 'tool' to be used for personal protection. I think that more and more these days we are seeing exploits coming out that are dis-abled (bad shellcode) or simply print a message ('I h4v3 0wn3d j3w!') while still getting the point across that there is a problem with the software.

I didn't realize it was a removal from ALL computers. Not just web servers. That makes much more sense.

  7. Removing javascript..... on White House Web Page Cracker Faces Prison · · Score: 1

Is that really necessary? As far as I know all javascript exploits have to do with the creation of nasty javascript on the serverside (redirecting people to fake login pages etc). The client can really do little with javascript from their side. Of course if they are talking about Java and ACtiveX well then ummm just ignore everything stated above.

  8. This definately happens. Sort of. on Unmasking Mis-Labeled CPUs · · Score: 1

I used to work at a small computer shop in which things such as 486 DX66's would be overclocked to 120 with a fan thrown on them. Now generally this was at the request from a customer to make there current machine go faster without a huge hardware upgrade. But this just goes to show that things like this do indeed happen.

  9. This is kinda a shame. on FreeBSD at COMDEX · · Score: 1

When we people start to realize that diversifictaion (spelling?) isn't a bad thing. I think that a lot of companies have this idea that if they let someone write drivers for their products they will have to support them. If we can get it through the heads of those in charge that they don't have to support the drivers just give us some specs than open source os'es will see a large increase from the hardware community.

I think we need to just say screw it and come to terms on an IM protocol.
Let AOL and ICQ and MSN and PDQ and ABC all come up with there own IM products. As long as they all can talk to each other. I for one am tired of hainvg three different IM products running.

I don't think it would be illegal. Altavista does the same thing. Based on what you search for they display different ads. Do a search for cigars and an add for cigaraficianado appears. So I don't think it would cause a problem.

AT&T. We were using MCI for our T1 services and it seemed like everyweek they had some router in Atlanta that was on fire, had grown legs and walked off or had been somehow run over by a bus. Honest to god. They said a bus hit their relay station. We have been using AT&T now for almost 5 months and haven't had a hiccup, they aren't the fastest to get out here and install the stuff but they definately have the better of the two services.
