Umm... that's what this poll is for, to get a decision from us, the people who are already using it, and aren't whining about "too many flavours".
After this dell would just use one distro, those who want something else, could install themselves, but have compatible hardware. Hardware compatibility would make people buy.
New people needn't know about this multiple distros thing at all, at least not at first.
About window manager, just pick one, doesn't really matter, as if you are novice enough to not know about this, you don't even need to know about others, that's how all the secretaries using windows are living.
