Now if I could just get you to tell that to my boss and actually convince them that just because I don't happen to have a 4 year degree (graduated from a 2 year commercial art school), and nevermind the fact that I'm their best employee in terms of attitude, knowledge, professionalism, and attendance, they should not pay me less than someone who knows nil and is an idiot who just happens to have a piece of paper documenting they spent 4 years taking classes. It's ludicrous and insulting but it seems to be the industry standard for any industry.
It's commerce. It's exactly like having a license to play a song but you don't really "own" it. It might not be popular, but it's playing within the rules. If people feel that the rules are unfair then they need to lobby their political representatives to change them. If you are of the opinion that doing so won't matter so there's no use bothering, then you shouldn't have an opinion. Put your activism where your outrage is. It's my opinion that Monsanto is playing within the rules and the outrage about GM foods being dangerous is unfounded. Once we can quiet the din of the doomdayers, we can then focus on the real issue which is changing the rules to check the control of this type of agriculture that Monsanto is exerting legally on the industry.
This debate will be a non-issue in a few years once it's realized that it's just an advancement in agriculture and not a plot to destroy the world. People are so silly when they start picking sides. It's a curious behavior we have that leads us astray on many issues.
Of course it's not, but the question raised it how can a programmer get more reliable information on their broken code? Don't rush the software through testing and keep it in the hands of more knowledgeable testers before handing it over to users. I didn't say it was possible, I'm just pointing out the obvious.
...ed and meaningless "article". This is probably the laziest and most pointless story I've seen on/. Try debugging in alpha and beta versions more before releasing into the wild.
I am NOT RTFA. But I noticed this in a female voice-over announcer in a radio commercial the other day. It annoyed the crap out of me and I immediately yelled at the radio to get off my lawn. But seriously ladies, it's friggin annoying. It's not fun. It's not funny.
This is going to be the greatest thing for H&M ever. I wouldn't be surprised if they started the controversy themselves by complaining to some dimwitted blogger to get the ball rolling.
The more we unlock the secrets of our physical world and discover new secrets, the farther and farther we get from our superstitious reasons for natural events. It's why we only have one "god" now. Through science and discovery we've eliminated the need for most of them. Now if we could just figure out how to overcome the crutch that is this last pesky fairy tale about the divine zombie. Science should devote itself to proving that zombies could not and can not possibly exist. It would certainly make me sleep easier at night. [wink]
We die in the end. Our demise as a living being is predetermined and inescapable. THAT is what has everyone so scared and willing to believe the unbelievable if it comforts them more than reality. It's the lowest common denominator in this whole stupid argument.
Sure it does. It means all that superficial crap that we export to the rest of the world hungry for almost anything American. I guess it's not like it used to be, but we still put out a lot of crap that you folks eat up. So yeah, it means what I think it means.
Wasn't America part of a European empire? Oh, that's right, we rejected that idea and then became the most inclusive country in the world and, as a nation of free people, not politicians, have started and led pretty much every social reform movement of significance on the face of the planet. And we happen to be starting another social movement against greed and aggression right now. So stop the America bashing and understand that "We The People..." is inclusive, not exclusive. The "American Way" isn't imperialistic, it's an invitation to be included in something that is inherently good. I understand people are suspicious of salesmen. But what we are really selling, as a people, not as a government, is freedom. Freedom with boundaries of course since their are those who hate freedom and wish to harm those that embrace it. As far as the whole satellite thing goes. No one really cares. It's just a political football to lend credibility to those whose job it is to kick it around.
If you anti-Americans had your way you'd rent a nice French bomb and poof us out of existence while leaving our culture intact for you to continue to enjoy.
While I certainly think people should be paid for their innovation and creativity. I'm poor. But I'll give a $1 just for old time's sake. I invite you all to do the same. I am in no way affiliated with the author of the software. And if you feel like donating another dollar to cover my dollar, and fund my mountain bike racing season, send it to cincitykid@comcast.net. (gratuitous horning-in on someone else's fundraising)
I always thought it was just a piece of accessory software that was provided to make Windows work. Never even considered it was supposed to cost money to use. And back then bulletin boards provided everything and anything you needed without the need for pesky "Keys" or registration.
You beat me to the punch. My response is, stop imagining what was an important factor. This is such a non story. My lack of faith in the/. editors is growing more disturbing.
Let it do its job. The industry has to adapt to the consumer. Not the other way around.

poor choice of wording - debugging - I meant exactly what you said. Fix more bugs during testing.

Windows 7? CentOS Linux?? I call bullshit on the "hanging with my girlfriend in bed" part. Never happened.
This is a job for Wkilieaks. It'll happen.
