There was a secure IM program out there. Seclude IM, but at the time there wasn't a big enough following for the group to keep it running. It supported 1024bit encryption and had 4 secured Ident servers provided by the personal working on it.
Using two monitors at work is a good way to get more done.
I work in a NOC and have 3 monitors, a laptop, 3 projection screens 7'x7' each, 2 42" TVs and a 53" plasma. Yes it might seem like overkill to anyone who writes code or your normal user, but for what I need to monitor/control all of these are required.
I was allowed to design our NOC with all of this and the managment here had no issues with it.
When deployed, the grenade showers the targets with a dust so spicy that in trials subjects were blinded for hours and left with breathing problems.
