The majority of our soldiers are not in a war zone. The previous regs required something that might be sensative to be cleared through your superior officers. Now it is all things.
Be it a post on your blog about how your dog has been sick recently, an email to a friend voicing a personal political opinion, or posting on a World of Warcraft forum asking for help with a difficult quest. All of these must now be cleared to remain in adherence with the regs.
Additional, I suppose this also alters an existing policy from it's currently standard to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Anyone." As if it's not bad enough that a homosexual soldier has to hide their identity for while they are 'on-duty', but now they have to hide it from the internet as well.
Keep in mind, as I already said, the rules were already previously that potentially sensative information must be screened to make sure it don't leak anything important. This is instead a change of policy to that regardless where you are stationed, regardless of your duties, any message over the internet is considered by default to potentially contain sensative information.
The Army keeps making policies like these and then wonder why they are having recruitment and retention problems (beyond the war in Iraq with it's over-extended tours of duty).
I suspect that another problem is also involved. It is not a just a new format at higher prices, but two competing formats. Even early adopters are being hesitant to buy into a $600 system which may prove to be the next betamax. Even worse, many movies are being released exclusively on a single format, which means that to get all of the movies you want you will have to buy both.
In the end it is far easier, cheaper, better to stay with DVDs. The higher quality of picture is not worth the hassle of the upgrade.
I am starting to wonder if both formats will fail due to this and the other mentioned issues.
Uhmm.. Science actually revealed that has erupted about three times before. Once about 2.1 million years ago, once again around 1.2 million years ago, and most recently 640,000 years ago.
Science requires more data then this to make accurate predictions. Media on the other hand have no problem reporting based on guesses and bad math. So no, there isn't a pattern yet and I am inclined to believe geology rather then the media.
That there has been increased activity is interesting, but given that the Yellowstone Caldera has far more frequently has simple lava flows without erupting, I'm not going to break out the emergency pants yet.
