I just moved to XP Home sp2 (no extra hotfixes) from 2k sp4 only because I got tired of the ancient and ugly interface in 2k (XP seems to handle my Raid 0 and C2D E6700 better too). XP has its bugs like not remembering window size and placement with two monitors on an nVidia card (dualview) but am putting up with it for the 'pretty' Fisher Price GUI. Oh, did I mention that I tweaked the hell out of XP (Fresh UI is not bad but a little buggy along with manual regedits, etc) to shut off all the annoying M$ nag and spyware, well the poor average user doesn't know how, bless their poor M$ oppressed souls, I can just imagine their frustration with Vista, makes my head spin. >:-/
A typical XP Home user would be better (notice I did not say a long time Windhose user?). I am so tired of uber-geeks trumpeting Ewbuntu, I hate Ewbuntu, IT SUCKS. Simplicity and user-friendly/intuitive are what make a great OS, not cobbled (yes, Ewbuntu is cobbled in many ways) so STFU until it is. I had a 1733MHz Athlon once, ONCE, it would kahk under real heavy loads AND LOCK UP, so don't give me the "never had a bad CPU" crap, it was bad by design (when I was shopping to build this machine, I remembered that experience). I wound up buying a CD2 E6700 cuz it has the shared 4MB cache and it smoked the top-o-the-line AMDs too. I am sorry but I have found that in AMD's quest to be fast, their CPUs are not as stable as Intel's. My C2D compresses, encodes, encrypts, etc. like wildfire (in combination with a 3 drive Raid 0), runs cool, uses little power and doesn't crash. I can't say I have had the same luck with AMDs in the past. >:-/ Also, more cores does not translate into more performance unless they are actually utilized, for example, the new quad C2s have little performance increase (for J. Sixpack running everday OS and apps) over their dual core predecessors. >:-/

get new renters of Vista to contact the 'mothership' for the hotfix. WGA at its finest folks. There is no way something this basic could be a problem for an OS that is built on top of a sever OS (Server 2k3). They keep out doing themselves with sneaky tactics like this. I bet the bug is time triggered and they had the fix even before Vista hit the market. DID ANYBODY HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE ALPHAS AND BETAS? Duh. Use your heads.
