I don't understand why finding, downloading and installing WinRAR is harder than:
apt-cache search kde archive software
sudo apt-get install ark... considering both actions can be trivially done by a GUI package manager app.
Problem with Windows is that you have to "know" which one of the 20,000 programs, which aren't even managed in a package repository, does what you need done. There's a lot of good Win* software out there, and there's a helluva lot of crap you wouldn't want on your PC (don't say "yeah, windows", that's too easy;-)) -- how do you differentiate between the two?
From TFA:

Yeah. Legacy documents in a standardized format, that render the same on every platform and with every implementation, right?
Most Office2k3 and OfficeXP/2k documents I've seen do *not* work in the other version (not even from the old version to 2k3).
I thought it was some crackpot half-assed nowhere-near finished beta project. Oh, wait.
You know what the difference is between Google and Microsoft products?
Google tells you it's beta software.
At least the advertising and search bit. Bunch of tubes, all of it! (And apparently Yahoo! and Live Search got stuffed in the same tube? Whats up with that? You'd think MS could afford its own tube!)
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read the fine diagram:)
I have to agree. I use a search engine, especially when I have a specific message that describes my error/problem/amazement. Ususally I feel pretty lucky and find the result instantly.
In theory, yes, but in practice (Soviet Europe, or Belgium (where I live), you can't.
We have the cheapest Belgacom telephone line which doesn't have that big a flat fee, but the price per minute is pretty steep (especially compared to US prices). Thankfully we do all our phone calls over VOIP;-)
Both links have been slashdotted, more or less. They haven't succumbed to the load, but we seem to have attracted enough attention to make them hide it better;-)

Am I the only one that read sublimemedia as Subliminal Media the first time 'round?
No, this is why God invented hell, so people would be motivated not to write stuff like that.

I'd use synergy. synergy is misspelled latin for "without niggers".
Because the people who make the law know the difference, and would make sure mining is allowed, but filtering is prohibited.
Right?
- Flash plugin
- Java plugin
- WMV HD movie audio (wma9dmo)
Those are the only few I can come up with at the moment... Lets hope (2) gets fixed soon! From TFA: >> while others claim that ISO/IEC 29500 provides additional functionalities, particularly with regard to legacy documents. Yeah. It's Zed's. Who's Zed? Zed's dead. Well, career-wise at least ;-)
Yeah. Gentoo just takes longer before you figure out its broken in the first plaSegmentation fault

Just use 1-dimensional, two-element arrays for ranges (it works for me). That way, it turns into: @range = reverse @oldrange;
