I can only speak of my own experiences, but I've had Netware servers with uptimes in the > 365 days time frames. I run Mac OS X, Windows 2003, Redhat and Suse Linux servers, and to date, no server platform has given me less downtime or fewer problems than my Netware servers.
Besides Netware, Novell has also produced some pretty cool technologies such as iFolder, but I digress./* puts on flame-retardant suit */:)
Jantastic makes good points. While the EUs privacy endorsing position may give some a warm fuzzy feeling, please remember that one of their members, the UK, has no qualms whatsoever about placing cameras on every square foot of public property and that those same cameras record every activity of citizens, running their faces through FR software to determine if they should be arrested.
I can't seem to locate the ruling, but wasn't the Supreme Court ruling on consumer rights to record/time-shift based on the lawsuit against the GoVideo dual-tape deck inventor?
Also, as an owner of a pre-DMCA GoVideo tape deck that *will* let you record Macrovision protected VHS & DVD media, am I now in violation of the law when I duplicate my tapes/DVDs on this device?
I completely agree with this. I actually think most of the best 'Wireheads' I know did *not* receive a CS degree, but rather had a liberal arts background.
I thought I had the best of both worlds in that I received an Associates in Liberal Arts - Music & Theatre in the 70' and in the 80's received an Associates in Engineering Technology.
Unfortunately, because of the accredidation circus, they don't both add up to a Bachelors.:-)
