  1. Re:Ummmm.... on Spam Trap Claims 10x-100x Accuracy Gain · · Score: 1

The only immediate, potential flaw I can see is this: "When analyzing a message, each receiver's percentage of spam versus legitimate email (his or her reputation) is an estimate of whether the message is spam or legitimate." That seems the Achilles' heel: you first need to use a regular spam detection method to make the estimation. And then reputation gets formed and begins to weigh in ever more prominently over time. Basically what Abaca does is keep track of the spam/ham ratio and feeds that result back into the selfsame mechanism to determine said spam/ham ratio. Which could be a good thing; but, on false positives, it means it's just a nasty way of compounding your error.

  2. Re:Browncoats on Serenity Trounces Star Wars · · Score: 1

Serenity is like the penthouse of a very tall skyscraper. Examine the interior, and you'll find beauty, but not the absolute apex. That is, until you step back, and see what height it was built on: Firefly. Without having seen the floors below, you won't truly get it. It angers folks that Serenity does so well, whereas it at bombed at the box office. And yet DVD sales were through the roof. And now this. While the numbers say it should crash, Serenity is still flyin'. As Mal said so well himself: "Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down." That is the magic of Serenity. If you want to find out how it works exactly, don't land on the roof by helicopter, but enter the building from the ground floor, and walk your way up. Believe me, how you get there is the worthier part.

When Vista stabilizes in a year or two and drivers and software are more abundant it will be a better operating system than XP True enough. Though I did get a WOW! experience, it was more like: "Wow, I can't believe how buggy it still is, and how bad the driver situation is with major video and audio companies." In earnest, currently, Vista is as good as unusable; except maybe if all you want to do is browse. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that it was Vista Ready.
  4. Re:Whoa on Nvidia To Recall Every 8800 GTX/GTS Card · · Score: 1

I know this is April Fool's and all, and it looks like this year we were spared the pink ponies, but isn't this a tad close to starting a harmful rumor? Well, I'd say people only call it a "harmful rumor" because it has the ring of truth. Not gullibility or anything, but the simple fact that the 8800 GTX driver situation has, indeed, been so deplorable, is what prompts folks to call this news a "harmful rumor". It's a sour reality for nVidia, of course; but, in all fairness, one of their own making.
