Just because we're genetically similar does not mean we have the same cognitive abilities. Which makes the fact that traders behave like monkeys so much more interesting.
For a nice expose on the myths of animal "training", take a look at "Do Animals Think?" by Clive Wynne (Easy search on Amazon). In a nutshell, there is no conclusive evidence that animals can "learn" beyond what is required for their natural environment. There is a big difference between Snake! Everyone watch out! and Hmm, I see a dangerous snake, maybe I should tell my rival that there is a nice juicy banana over there!
Agreed. Because Firefox (and Linux) bends over backwards to allow compatibility with Windows, it means that lazy web designers and vendors only ever have to concentrate on supporting one target platform. Yet not allowing interoperability can also be a death blow to adoption.
The same reason why things converge towards the lowest common denominator, no matter how mediocre that may be.
Not that I necessarily disagree, but the software industry must take some of the blame too. As a developer I (sometimes) have sympathy with users that are under pressure to complete their work, working on a variety of systems with different and unintuitive interfaces. Most users simply isn't proficient enough in software/computers to understand what is causing that java.lang.NumberFormatException...
I think Alan Cooper addressed this in "The Inmates Are Running The Asylum". The problem is basically that the system design that simplifies development/maintenance typically complicates life for the end user.
