This looks pretty cool, just because of the hack value, but I wonder if it would be possible to run two separate instances of a game like Unreal Tournament or Quake 3, each using a separate video card, fullscreen with 3d acceleration. Find some way to hook a keyboard and mouse to both the standard PS/2 ports and the usb ports. Obviously this would require a lot of hacking in many parts of the system and might not be possible without access to the game's source code (although part of UT for linux is open source), but it would allow two players to deathmatch on one machine (preferably a dual-CPU SMP box.) 3dfx Voodoo2's might be appropriate for this, since the drivers are open source (I think), and they are fullscreen 3d only. Using them might also eliminate any complications with making X run multihead; just tell each instance of the game to use a different card (I don't know how but it seems like it must be doable, given enough time and effort.)

Would it maybe be possible to remove an unwanted watermark from digital music by getting a large number of copies of a track, each containing a different watermark, and averaging/mixing them together so the watermarks cancel each other out or interfere with each other? Just an idea.. -Lorenz
How can I purchase a single MAS3507D chip in the United States? www.intermetall.de says that www.symmetryla.com is their North American reseller, but it also says that their resellers only sell in quantities of at least 50. The site also said that www.conrad.de sells smaller quantities of the chip in Europe, but I can't find anyone who sells smaller quantities in the US. -Paolo, paolo0 at yahoo dot com
I connected to AOL through my cable modem using my friend's account, using AOL 3 software for 16 bit windows under WINE from Linux a while ago. (we were bored..) -Paolo
For me, @Home works with any OS or hardware (including an ancient Sun workstation running OpenBSD) that has an ethernet jack and can do TCP/IP with a static IP address.
To raise money, Prolume last month began selling $4.99 squirt guns loaded with powdered genes that were replicated from a jellyfish caught off the coast of Washington state.
Um.. as I learned from high school biology, you can't 'load a squirt gun with powdered genes'. There's no such thing as a powdered gene, its just a sequence of DNA bases. You can of course have an organism transcribe those genes into proteins, and use the powdered bioluminescent protein. Looks like the article's author needs to learn some basic biology.

I saw the Apex DVD player advertised in a Circuit City ad in yesterday's newspaper, highlighting its MP3 capability.
