  1. Some images blurred on Google Adds Satellite Imagery to Maps · · Score: 1

Its interesting that the U.S. Capitol is blurred out, but somehow the White House isn't.

  2. Different at our school on Will CS Students Switch From Microsoft? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I attend Texas A&M University and in our courses that use C/++, we use Visual C++. The lab machines have Borland and the Unix machines have gcc, but the reason VC++ is used is the professors can get copies of Visual Studio for free for every student.

In addition to this, our school is in negotiations w/ MS to bring a licenseing plan to A&M to make copies of all MS OS's and Office to students for about $5 per copy. A plan like this is already in the works at U of Texas.

It's hard to get away from it when its getting shoved down your throat...

  3. Computers in 1st grade... on No-Tech Schools In Tech Land · · Score: 2, Funny

Computers in first grade do solve one problem...

    Coloring in the lines...

Instead of trying hard with that dull crayon to color within the lines, one click with the fill tool in photoshop and you're never outside the lines again ;)

  4. This is doing AOL more harm than good... on AOL vs. Trillian · · Score: 1

Think about it... By AOL doing this and blocking Trillian and in turn, Trillian going around it... and all this catching the press attention... AOL is only hurting themselves... This informs people who didn't know in the past about Trillian, and now they do.

If AOL would have just let the one million users that use Trillian quietly slip under the radar, it would have been much better than all the millions of people that have now heard about Trillian and will possible use it.

What does it matter to AOL anyways? They have over 33 million users to AOL alone... And only God knows how many on AIM... I think they've screwed themselves over on this one...

  5. Re:KaZaA still up -- I think on KaZaa Suspends Downloads · · Score: 1

I just logged on to KaZaA, did a search on 'Spears' and lots of images, MP3s, videos, etc. are available for download.

Whew... for a second there I thought I wouldn't be able to download all those Brittney Spears teeny bopper songs and fake pr0n that we all love so much!

  6. Ignorance on AMD To Hide MHz Rating From Consumers · · Score: 1

Basically, AMD is playing off the publics ignorance. Without the average consumer knowing the true differences between the P4's and Tbirds, all they have to go on is a higher number.

I agree that AMD should beef up their advertising. I hardly ever see anything about an AMD chip in any computer unless its from a Gateway add.

I don't agree with AMD pulling this stunt just for PR, but then again, its the publics perception that generates revenue and thus keeps our beloved AMD rolling along. There are, however, better ways that they could go about doing this...

  7. Not only do they have a DVD player... on What Do You Think Of The Delux DVD? · · Score: 1

Their page also says that they're coming out with a mobile DVD player (not nearly as embelished as their regular one, still plays mp3's but thats about it) but they're also coming out with a mobile Mp3 player combined with a digital camera... This is about the weirdest thing i've ever seen.... Who would want to play songs while taking pictures.... (well... I can think os some situations where some nice music would help make some pictures better ;) )

    Anyways, here's the specs:

    10 Mhz, 16bit CISC Processor
High-speed downloads by parallel interface (300k per sec)
MP-3 File Playback DSC Mode (Digital Still Camera Mode)
32/64 MB Embedded Flash Card (32MB stores 54 photos)
    Voice recording by internal MIC
    @ 32kbps = 2 hrs of stored music on MP3000 player
    Digital Volume control (32 steps)
    Digital Bass Boosting (12 steps)
    Digital Trebel Boosting (12 steps)
    DSP Modes (8)
Digital Telephone Directory (stores 250 #'s)
    2 line LCD display

Only a 2 line LCD display?? Thats a little strange if you wanted a good digital camera... Telephone Directory???? Who needs that on a mp3 player or camera!

Here's a link to their page about it

Why pay $149.95 for 8mb more when if you had a Visor, you could get almost 2 8mb flash Springboard modules for that price! (They're $79.95 each)

I personally love my Blue Visor Deluxe... I've never had one problem with it!
