  1. HP Fixed Frequency Monitors & Linux on Old Fixed-Sync Monitors under Linux? · · Score: 1

I've got two HP1097C Fixed Frequency monitors (from HP 712 workstations) and I've got them running under linux fine.

There are two tricks to this: the first is to get a video card that supports Sync on Green - I'm using a Matrox card. The second is to find the correct modeline.

I tried it under Accelerated X, (4.1 and 5.0) but it failed miserably. Under XFree86, however I was able to (after 2 hours) get a set of Modelines that work. So now I'm running X in 1280x1024x32bit with a Matrox G200 card.

I'd assume this would work under any XFree 86 supported platform, but YMMV.

Email me at ken@spam.networkoverlord.com (remove spam) if you want futher info, or my XFree86 config.

While I haven't recieved my Firecracker kit, I did order one of the ActiveHome kits from them few weeks ago, and part of that days deal was the HawkEye motion sensors. A bit of Linux hacking with perl and the XTEND X10 Linux driver, and I setup a motion-sensing webcam. Whenever there's motion it snaps off an image - could be used as a primative form of security I guess.

I'm moving shortly, so I'll have to figure out more stuff to do with it all in the new place.

I agree with you - I personally own 4 domains right now - all for various reasons

I also thing companies should be able to buy as many domains as they wish - tho I'm waiting for IPv6/IPng to grow - wonder if we'll have this domain buying spree all over again...

  5. x10 is the way to go on Home Management Software for the PC ? · · Score: 1
I've just started down this road myself. I grabbed one of those ActiveHome kits from www.x10.com and starting fooling around. There's heyu and xtend for communicating with the kit's CM11A controller, and I've had success with both. I know there is temperature monitoring stuff, a dial up interface and even RF remote controls. At the moment, I'm got a motion-sensor setup to trigger a QuickCam for my webcam, but once the rest of my order comes in I'll experiment some more.

Best part is, I haven't read the manual yet, and it's all done under Linux.
