    It's all done in software by MacOS, and then done better by the commercial software SpeedDoubler. The current version of MacOS can still run 68K applications via emulation. The PPC architecture itself never had anything to do with it.

    The BeOS, yes, has a more elegant architecture, but alas, it lacks color management, postscript font support...

    Minor quibble: BeOS supports Type 1 fonts.

    I think they got a clue eventually. My relatively cheap Casio watch says TU 2-29. Of course, it's only good through 2029. Then it rolls over to 1985.

    Well, maybe, but only because of the numbers involved. There were only ever 1800 BeBoxen sold!

    Also, technical specifications for the BeBox are available at Be's website. The BeBox, IIRC, is essentially a PReP box with some fancy I/O ports added on. I have no idea how much reverse engineering and custom patching was necessary (if any) but MacOS runs just fine on a BeBox using SheepShaver and a ROM file borrowed from a PCI Mac.
