I don't think it's anything to do with graphs. If you imagine a climbing a large mountain, it's a step climbing curve. It takes a lot of effort. Just as learning something as complex as C++ is complex. Or something.
O.K, so the site has it's heart in the right place, but i didn't see anything on there that wasn't either at a very early (Pre Alpha) version, or anything that even looked that interesting. Most of it is either going to have a limited userbase, or is just pretty useless. Maybe the fact that these projects are now unmaintained is because they simply weren't a good idea?
They want to screw up your ext2fs partition? Maybe it's a conspiricy, or a hidden meaning (Once you were lost, now you are found). Still, better than/tmp....
Yes, thank you, 100% correct. This is exactly the same gripe i have against Mozilla. Skins are great and all, but it doesn't make it look the same as the rest as my apps. Developers do not a UI designer make, or some such.
Wordperfect 2000 should be a little better in some respects, as it's simply the Windows binary running pretty much on top of WINE. This is a Good Thing because it means its fully compatible with the Windows version, but is a Bad Thing because it makes it slower, and bloated. WP does seem to handle Word files better than Star Office though (From what i've seen of WP 8 and earlier versions of SO that is, Your Millage May Vary)
Me, i'd go and look up "Free" in a dictionary. Since when did the word "Free" ever mean "Open Source"? If they arn't charging for the product, how is it not "Free"?
Free is good, Open Source is better. But dont knock Sun just because they correctly use a proper English word.
No, it's not just you. As someone else has pointed out above, the horrible MDI interface that Star Office uses is an annoying "feature" of these integrated office suites. Most of the stuff they do is a case of reinventing the wheel, and it adds instability to the whole package while at the same time making simple tasks take much longer than they should do. Componentising the software is a Good Thing, but when each component is a full blow application in itself, it becomes a Bad Thing.
There must be an easier way to get each component to comunicate with each other, and create a lightweight office suite that doesn't take over your entire system. It just seems noone wants to try at this time.:(

Unfortunatly, due to a bug in the above code, everyone will ectually start washing bran, while chanting "Burn Linux, Burn Microsoft, Follow the Krull". Someone did notice this bug, and submitted a patch, but 2.3.99 is in Feature Freeze, and it was decided to wait until 2.5.x to fix it. Thus, the Krull invasion must wait another two years.
See, i'm still not too sure about this. The component architecture that is finally settled on is going to be realised under a licsense of some sort. You can bet your bottom dollar that the Gnome team will want to use GPL.
How will the GPL component code fit into the KDE code? Will there be any parts of KDE where the QTL and the GPL will overlap and/or conflict? Maybe this isn't an issue, and i've missed the point entirly (Has been known to happen once you know;)
I think it may be more than Debian not being able to use it. After all, if Gnome (GPL) code and KDE (QTL) code is merged, they have to merge the two, aparently incompatible, licenses. This is probably one of the more important considerations if the two teams decide to go ahead with this.
Of course if they do manage to merge GPL & QTL code sucesfully, i guess the Debian problem will be solved at the same time.
O.K, maybe i've missed a fundamental part of all of this, but whats to stop an application coder linking against both QT and GTK+ in order to use component's from both? Obviously the final code will be a little bloated (You're gonna have two GUI toolkits in one application), but can it be down right now?
No, it will have 64,000 undocumented bugs. As it's OSS, you can look at the source for documentation. That is, until the Linux Bug-Documentation Project gets into full swing.;)
Note for humour impared: This is a parody/bastardization, not a knock at Linux. Of course it won't have 64,000 bugs.
and anyone who suggests using the year of release will be shot:-)
Oh darn...i was really looking forward to Linux 2002. Kernel 2.6.0 sounds so boring. And hey, if M$ havn't released a version of Windows with the same year, we're in the clear! ("Oh, you're using Windows 2000? That's two years old now! I have Linux 2002"):)
One of the main points of looking for ET is that it finding ET will answer one of the questions that has been bugging mankind for eons: Are we alone?
If we can find life somewhere else it may answer many theological and scientific questions. It also puts human kinds aparent "uniqness" into perspective. Just imagine what the worlds reaction would be to the news that life had been discovered outside of our solar system...
Although i havn't been able to access the site (Slashdoted), i assume it links against the DIVX codec, which is a third party CODEC and not part of Windows. So there should be no problems there.
There is no legal issue if you use the actual Windows (Media Player) CODEC to do it. It's perfectly possible, and no reverse engineering has taken place.
O.K, so it's a fun idea and all, but i thought i'd clarify that the article is simply instructions on Amplifiying and Sequencing DNA, not changing or cloning people:) The two are just a little too diferent:)
So, is this the first step of the new book How to clone a human in 23415 easy steps! Now there's a scary thought, you could have a whole cloned army of amueter scientists!

QTL/QPL, yeah, i'm always confusing the two. I tend to stay away from the whole QPL/GPL wars for the reason that i tend not to care.
If what you say is the case, fine. I'm all for it.
BTW, swearing wasn't needed, it makes your post look like a flame, and you don't wanna start a flame war.

We need an astronomical null modem
Wow, that would be one hell of a cable. I'm sure you'd need some serious shielding on it too.

Out of interest, what is a microarray? I have visions in my head of a char array[NULL]; for some reason, but i know it can't be that :)

If they wern't misplaced, why were they looking for them?
