i was trying to avoid commenting, but i just cant resist. what with all the 'there going to destroy us' and 'what if they are *smarter* than us' crapola being thrown around

perhaps you fail to notice that the world is the way it is primarily because of human *greed*. thats right.. a sentient AI wont need to nip down to the nearest store for more coke will it?

of course you could have some nice viri that influenced large numbers of AI beings to go out and buy your product.. :)

AI wont kill us off.. itll kill off the way we currently live (and have lived for the past few hundred years).. remeber the printing press and how that changed the way society worked.. as a speicies were afraid of change.. and we can see that socitey as it stands wont be the same..and that scares us...

i dont think we have a lot to worry about.. and if you want to read more on possible cybernetic stuff.. go and get the shadowrun sourcebooks :)

    1. only a few days ago.. everyone on here was up in arms about the US government possibly invading the rights of its citzens, the second its done to overseas companies in the name of 'competition' there are far to many people on here who suddenly think its a great idea. do you really think US companies play by a different set of rules?

    2. to americans who dislike europeans, just remeber where your ancestral lines spread from.. a large percentage of you will descend from europe. perhaps you should consider your family history back more than 2 generations before making rash sterotypical arguments.

    3. if you still belive your government has your rights and opinons in mind when it makes it decisions, if you still belive that multinational companies actually care about what you think, perhaps you should have taken the red pill? hmm? next time your government makes a decisionor awards a contract, look a little closer.. who provides the funding for your senators campaigns?

the world sucks.. get used to it

    were in interesting times here

big corporations trying to squash the little people (we havent paid our royalites on the patent for thinking, so we shouldnt be thinking at all) and the little people telling the corporations to shove it up their collective orifaces.

    its fantastic :)

its a pity that a good 90% of the population has no idea about issues like this. With the way business is embracing the whole e(*cough*BULLS#$@*cough*)commerce thing the internet is gonna be around, and used widely by your average joe, and these sorts of 'innovative' strategies by these sorts of companies lay down the road that the 'general' (sic) population will use. yet most people are completly oblivious to the toing and froing that goes on behind the big murky cloud that has become the net as we know it.
but what can we do? who knows.. i just know im sick to the back fscking teeth of corporations fscking over the general population who are too occupied with their 500 channels of nothing to notice.

stop the f*@#$ing planet.. i want to bust a few heads

ill stop now before i start sounding like a certain /. personality :)

    3 - USB specs

okay so no-one stole the DeCSS source.. but thats beside the point...

on a slightly more serious note.. this sucks
im sick of companies attempting to control things with an iron fist, yes people have to eat, but what sort of a standard is one which ordinary people cant read?
this is absurd.. and needs to be stopped

but dont you think were all getting a little too militant a little too early?
