  1. Outgoing Filters. on Spammers Choose GMail · · Score: 1

Outgoing Email filters are becoming more and more popular on the internet. My company pays for hosting and email, we were recently switched from Postini to Can-It. Postini had no outgoing mail filtering, Can-It does, once we learned the rules of outgoing mail everything was fine. I would not be suprised if this was the way google took. Maybe not switching to Can-It, but outgoing mail filtering.

  2. Re:Could be something good on FCC To End Exclusive Cable For Apartments · · Score: 1

I live in the chicago-land area and had this same exact problem with comcast...

I called them everyday, like the persistant pain that I am, and they were out on service calls to my house everyday, they replaced every inch of cabling from the pole to my cable modem and they replaced the modem itself. They wanted me to call every week and get the credits for that week... I wasn't going to deal with that, so since there is no penalty for a technician visit I had those overcharging, bandwidth throttling, packet filtering, idots out everyday until my problem was fixed.

And it didnt cost me a penny, but it did cost me many hours of my time.

  3. Microsoft... on Microsoft To Change Desktop Search After Google Complaint · · Score: 1

There seems to be alot of MS hatred on /. - Microsoft IS the major OS creator for PCs. There is no good in complaining about it. Many /.'ers use Linux based OSes ALONG with MS. So why all the hatred - MOST people want to go to the store buy a computer, go home set it up and get doing what they intend to do. MOST people don't buy a PC to complain about what MS has done!

With that said, I am a developer for a corporation and we have a team of developers, each assigned a task in the application we are creating. I don't have to ask my boss for every line of code that I write or for every function that I add... Should MS ask their group of laywers if the can implement a search function to the OS they are developing??? Did MS intentionally set up the desktop search with NO provision for disabling it???

The answer to both of those questions is NO. If MS had to ask if they could develop a new function, we wouldn't be where we are in the pc world. The fact is that MS wrote a disable function - whether it was for end-user use or 3rd party use isn't known by us, but this time MS should not have backed down so quickly.

I am a user of BOTH Linux and MS VISTA & XP user... I have no loyalties to either, they both fit the need that I have for them. I'm not for MS and against Linux, I'm just saying this time Google needed to step it up...

  4. MDA vs. WING on Review of Windows Mobile 6-Based "Wing" · · Score: 1

Let me start by saying that I have owned a Blackberry 7100 and a Pearl, the MDA, and the new Wing...

Of all of these devices, I prefer the Wing.

I was excited when I bought the MDA: WM5, miniSD, WMP, and a phone...

I was quick to test all of the features, half of them I never looked at again. I'm not a huge fan of bluetooth, T-Mobile locked the MDA so bluetooth was headsets only. The WMP was garbage: I ripped a movie that I owned down onto my 2 GB miniSD card, and to my suprise - it didn't play well, slow choppy, audio was out of sync (the movie was fine on my xp box)... The camera was a 1.3, but the images weren't great, and the speed of the device wasn't great also...

With all of that said, I loved my touch screen, slide out QWERTY keyboard, phone!

When the wing was announced I purchsed it the next day AS A MDA REPLACEMENT.

Again, I tested all of the NEW features, I'm still not impressed with the camera, but it's not a big deal, the bluetooth has been unlocked for syncing via activesync, I haven't tested WMP, so I can't comment, however the 2 greatest improvements were the BUILT IN TASK MANAGER, and the DIALER UPGRADE... The dialer on the MDA was slow, and I often dialed wrong numbers, because of the delay between button presses, this has been corrected in the wing and it will dial as fast as you can dial, and the built in task manager is a great plus...

I would say that hands down this device beats out the Blackberry (7100, Pearl) and the MDA. It is faster, the spring loaded keyboard is solid, it is slimmer than the MDA and I like the rubberized blue coating on it.
