Odd... I have just tried installing a Linux-distro (Feisty Fawn Kubuntu) for the first time and I found the screen-flipping thing quite easily:
K-button > System Settings > Monitor & Display > Monitor Orientation
On the other hand I haven't been able to change my screen resolution to 1440x900 or get connected to my wireless network.
