just think about cooking shows.
Pretty much every single ingredient used - apart from salt and water, is the result of the death of a living thing, and its done for your hedonistic pleasure.
Cockroaches perform a valuable role in the ecosystem - especially the mangled urban environment, but they breed fast enough that the loss is insignificant. Of course it would be better to kill something totally worthless, like American Idol contestants, but the myth they are testing refers specifically to cockroaches.
The size of the pores defines what the membrane will filter. Now, to my limited chemical knowledge, a molecule consisting of 2 oxygen atoms is going to be smaller than a molecule consisting of 2 oxygen atoms and a carbon atom. On those grounds, the membrane would have to be used in reverse as it were, allowing the O2 and N2(how big is N2, compared to CO2 ?) to pass through while trapping the CO2.
The efficiency of simply filtering normal atmosphere wouldnt be very high though. Much more cost effective to filter out the CO2 at industrial sources of it, where you are assured of a high quantity.
..back in the Paleolithic, about people wasting time putting seeds into the ground, instead of going out hunting..
I mean, look at how long it takes to get a return on your investment, and you dont get much back, etc etc etc..
In the article they mentioned cooperative hydrogen bonds.
now, I can barely remember my high school chemistry but that does sound like something that would be vulnerable to water as a solvent.
Still, I would guess it would be a slow process, and putting a waterproof coating on something is a technology that has been around longer than metalworking.
have you seen the number of crappy imitation "Davids" out there ?
they get sold as garden ornaments FFS.
There isnt any question of originality or artistic merit..
IANAL, or an artist , but I consider Machinima to be more of a 'performance' art, as opposed to a 'creative' art, which falls more towards the game design and the ingame assets - props etc.
With Machinima, there is the artistic pretensions - or even ability in rare cases, of the performers, but the setting is usually still recognisable as the world of the game creators. This in no way detracts from the revenues of the Game owners. In fact it does an excelent job of advertising the game. We should have some kind of recourse against games where the advertising trailers and opening vids DONT resemble actual gameplay and ingame graphics.

Depending on the minesite, from once a week to twice a day. Ammonium Nitrate(urea) and Fuel Oil explosives are the backbone of the industrial explosives. There are legitimate uses for explosives, and legitimate uses for ammonium nitrate.
A chemical sensor that detects firearm propellants would be more useful for finding criminals - except we are talking about the USA and its miltiary adventures anyway.
Just because I work around explosives, and have a beard, does not make me a bomb hurling radical.
Thats easy, they just get the poor african ex-farmers to do it, after taking away all their drought ridden land that wouldn't support food crops anyway.
Clean energy is only "clean" at its point of use. The trick is to keep the polluting bits out of the public eye.
Just started looking at a micropayments game, and once you work through the currency conversions etc, to outfit your character with the gear you cant get ingame, costs about as much as a retail game. Then there are on-going costs for consumables, to upgrade your gear or boost your development.
I can see it being a better money-spinner for the game owner than traditional monthly subscription type MMOs, but that doesnt make it a better game for the player. Not having to pay to "get in" attracts one type of gaming vermin, whilst being able to "buy your way to uberness" attracts another. Worst of both worlds
the ACLU and all their brethren should be acting to ensure the LAW is fair and just, and that the legal system doesnt persecute people.
instead they are attacking the enforcement. Making cops lives miserable, less effective and more dangerous isnt going to help them deal with the public.
stop blaming Bush for potential abuses of the system, its your fault for electing him. Elect honest, competent politicians, and make good just effective laws.
Trying to prevent the cops from doing their job as efficiently as is possible is stupid. Having an adversary relationship with your own law enforcement is stupid. Get your laws right, and then if the police are abusing their authority, use the law to bring them into line.
And dont let your country get to the point where your legislature is acting against the people... this is where the ACLU has a role to play.
The ACLU have missed the boat on this one. its the very existance of registration plates which is an offense against what they stand for, and if you accept that registration plates are necessary and useful, then the ACLU are kind of left looking stupid.
They have this automatic knee-jerk reaction to "police+camera+computer", with the same level of actual thought as the general public on "AIDS+homosexuals" or "kittens+medical research"
You get the impression they have a sacred mission to make the police agencies job more difficult. The problem is, they do need to watchdog civil liberties... but they need to be doing it at a court/legistlature level, and making sure that fair and just laws are enforced properly, not by persecuting the law officers as agents of oppression. Probably too many ex-hippy rebel university students trying to hold onto their fast vanishing youth in the ACLU power structure.
Vehicle registration plates exist to identify vehicles. Saying you can identify them, but cannot manage that information with modern technology, is like saying police can pursue stolen vehicles, but only on foot.
There are games out there that kids shouldn't be playing, and for that matter there are games which would be improved by having less kids playing.
So in principle I agree with the concept.
However I dont believe it can be enforced, and the stated excuse for it is a load of crap, so if it does happen it will be done badly and for the wrong reasons.
Recipe for a disaster.

It should be left down always. Period. . Having it left up just reminds me of how much it needs cleaning L....
The real issue is just that no-one wants to handle the seat itself.
There's very a real market for an automatic lift/lower mechanism. If you just had to touch a button for it to be lifted, you wouldn't care so much.

According to the article, it could do a MAX speed of 30 knots.. They neglected to mention what its cruise speed was.
