  1. Same in Belgium on ARIA Sells a Licence for DJs to Format Shift Music · · Score: 1

Sadly it is the same here in Belgium (for a couple of years already now). SABAM is extorting local DJ's for a fee of I believe 250 euros for this.
And why? Only because the law here says they can do it, you can only create public performances off of legitimately bought products, not derivatives.

It's just all very much twisted and fucked up, I am still awaiting the first rise of DJ's who aggressively campaign against this extortion (or media coverage of this malfunctioning copyright system). But pretty much to no avail.

  2. Re:Stallman's tactics for a new generation on Open Source Business Model Using Software Patents · · Score: 1

Ever heard of the band Rhapsody? They have existed since 1997. Now, in 2001 Real Software decided that Rhapsody would be a nice name for their online music service and hence trademarked the name. In 2006, the band rhapsody was then forced by Real Software to change their name to "Rhapsody of fire", otherwise facing legal actions for infringing on their trademark. They complied (and put some lame text on their site stating they considered it a good time to have a new start and all). It can be useful in theory, but in practice it just has the same problems as copyright and patents: when no-one checks for excesses or when you have a legal system in which people with loads of money always win due to the high amount of money needed to even win a case, the system fails.

  3. Re:Why would I even want to be in the Boardroom on Gaffes That Keep IT Geeks From the Boardroom · · Score: 1

That is turning around the whole argument: it is exactly management that seems to be more interested in applying a dresscode to someone than in how good someone is doing their job. Given two persons where one is less capable than the other, but the capable one refuses to wear a suit, they will pick the person in the suit.

That refusing to wear a suit would mean you are not interested in people is also bollocks. It just shows that one appreciates his personality and does not want to look like everyone else on the block, hence he surely is interested in people. Also, it shows that a person is interested in standing out from the crowd a bit, what exactly any company wants to do! So why that stupid insisting on making everyone look the same? A suit is NOT the only non-extravagant clothing style or clean or good clothing style that exists.

What is needed is some business that does a good job, but where management is not forced into that idiotic, passé traditional clothing style to break the whole idea that somehow customers would never buy something from a firm where people do not wear ties and suits.
