Intergraph builds an engineering drapting package which has been around since the early 1980's. It originally ran on PDP11's then VAX then Unix boxes.
It is basically a GUI talking to a relational DBS with a bit of, well actually a lot of, code in between. All you need is an old brochure or magazine add from the appropriate year.
In the same vane, you might try other CAD packages. Most ran on Unix before windows and all kind of fit the bill. Everyone except Sun used X.
Mentor Graphics, Racal Redac come to mind. Ask someone from the engineering faculty who has been in the business for 10 - 15 years.
