Autism is a spectrum diagnosis. What was once a limited classification diagnosis has now expanded to include other conditions which manifest in autistic-like behaviors. Fragile X is one of many many conditions that fall under the Autism spectrum. It gives hope to parents of Fragile X children yes, but there are so many other conditions classified under autism.
Fragile X is in the Autism spectrum but to say it 'cures autism' is very misleading. I find these types of press releases very detrimental for parents with children with autism, it gives them false hope.
Last night on nightline they focused upon two differing views on autism treatments and causes and I found some of it very disturbing and downright reckless "science".
