  1. What about the fist ammendment on Mitnick Ordered Off Lecture Circuit · · Score: 1

Isn't this a direct violation of his first ammendment rights. I mean I know felons can't generally get guns which is similar. But I always thought there was something about the 1st ammendment which we prided ourselves in. If some guy is sitting on death row can write a book there is really something messed up about Mitnick not being able to speak or write about technology.

Just wondering about your thoughts on recent announcements by Dr. Randell Mills and his company Blacklight Power, http://www.blacklightpower.com do his ideas seem feasible and sound. PS I really enjoyed The God Particle.

  4. anti-time...anti energy on Reverse Time Could Explain Dark Matter · · Score: 1

I've wondered, under the quantum view of matter energy everything is represented by particles. W and Z particles being force carrying particles for the strong force(I think). Theoretical gravitons for gravity and so on. The particles that make up matter(at least baryonic matter) all have anti equivelannts. I'm sure everyone on /. knows when a particle and it's anti come together they are converted to 100% energy. Now if force carrying particles also have anti's, would they make matter when they come together?

hmmm, the EU is looking into a ban of the PIII and Intel starts investing in European companies. I guess things work the same way the world over.

The company is called Softbank. Search +softbank +ziff-davis to find a few hits. Here's one http://www.zd.com/news/docs99/0715.htm Softbank also owns shares in pretty much all the other net companies like Yahoo! and Etrade for example.

  7. More than our rights on IETF Rejects Wiretapping · · Score: 1

There are many more questions associated with these types of policies. Which countries are going to have access to these protocols? This will have to cause problems when it comes to setting encryption limits on exports. Obviously if only the US can snoop other governments will want high encryption. There will be the demand and the the US gov won't let our country supply. On top of everything how can it be legal for the companies to continue this. I'm going to petition the UCLA to stop companies from doing this. When the goverment does it it's bad enough but there is no way the private sector could initiate something like this on their own legally.

  8. Re:No, use common sense. on CMU Cuts off Net Access for 71 Students Over MP3s · · Score: 1

Record companies asked for it. Not only do they pressure bands to put out sub par records but they charge more for CD's when CD's cost less to make than tapes. If CD prices cost the same as tapes(they'd still be making more off CD's than tapes) I'd consider buying them but right now, they screw me I screw them. I'd rather send a donation to the band. Even if we blame the band for having one good song and 10 crappy ones on an album we can still blame the record company for not selling that 1 good song by itself for a couple of bucks. Distribution woes still falls squarely on the record company. BTW I find it odd that the music, movie and software industries whine so much about piracy when they have some of the largest profit margins of any industry.
