  1. Re:hmm... (somewhat OT) on Internet Effects on Presidential Campaigns · · Score: 1

About the flat tax that you mentioned... Can somebody please explain to me what it means to be "too liberal"? I understand that the flat tax favors the wealthy because in the end, they (those that have the largest percentage of their income) pay less overall tax under a flat tax system. How is this a good thing? In addition, why are american-style campaign commercials always filled with some conservative rhetoric about the other guy being "too liberal"?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand about the American constitution, (I'm from Canada where liberalism is largely considered a good thing.) it was largely influenced by a classic liberal thinker named John Locke?

This just seems a little paradoxical

Actually, 647 IS a new area code for Toronto. Bell Canada is splitting the 416 area code (Again) I think that it's supposed to be 416 West of Yonge Street and 647 East of it.

I don't think it goes into effect for a few years though.

You are missing the point here. Rebroadcast of signals is PERFECTLY LEGAL in Canada so long as the transmission is not altered in any way.

To insert your own ads into a retransmission would make iCraveTV ILLEGAL. The people that they are re-transmitting will not have their brand diluted.

The actual problem discussed in the movie is Robert Nozick's "Brain in a Vat" problem. The problem essentially comes down to this:

How do we know that we aren't just brains in a vat?

Suppose your brain was in a vat that kept it physiologically alive, and little electrodes connected to it gave you all of your "sensations".

You simply could not "know" that this was the case!

It makes perfect sense for Sun to put linux in their systems. It will only encourage people to buy their hardware. Sun probably doesn't make a whole lot of money on OS software anyways, and they need their workstation sales in order to have that critical mass that they need in order to bring the cost of manufacturing those SPARC chips. This move will hopefully bring the cost of those bad-ass servers down a bit.
