There are plenty of alternatives. Anyone who is putting all of their eggs in one basket doesn't understand the shelf life of technology.
Most everyone I know has some kind of personal music collection on their local machine(s), and the streaming is a complement to that. Because of the general hassle associated with managing a large and growing music collection, of course we'd love to offload that to someone else for a nominal fee.
My current strategy involves tripling up on cloud storage and trying before I buy any of the streaming services. Google and Amazon both offer substantial music storage for ridiculously low prices. $20 a year for a cloud drive with UNLIMITED storage means a one time hassle of tagging and uploading everything to the cloud...let them worry about it after that. Amazon is the winner now, just because of the download capability. Google Music is great too, though. Both work well on your mobile device with limited bandwidth requirements.
After investigating and playing with Spotify a little bit, it actually appears to be an inferior product to MOG [assuming you plan to pay for either service] for a few reasons, which you can seek out for yourself and come to your own conclusion.
BitTorrent and File Lockers aren't going away. Turntable.fm is fantastic. We've got options. Let Spotify do whatever it wants, and we'll do whatever best suits our needs/wants.
After having some time to play with the dedicated iPhone app yesterday evening, it's not much better (performance-wise) than the HTML5 version that runs nearly identically in mobile Safari. Give that a shot if you haven't already.
Menus, swipe to change categories, etc...all work just like the app.
No offense, but your post suggests you aren't even familiar with how to *sync* your phone properly. I'm going to wager that you are doing it wrong.
For every person *you* know with a 3G who is having issues, there are probably a thousand who are happily fast switching apps and enjoying orientation lock, among other things.
Honestly though, you'd be better off getting an iPhone 4. The antenna issue really is a non-issue. Never had a problem. Been using a bumper since the first week it was out.
iOS 4 sucks on the iPhone 3G (nearly no new features, but much slower), so many are reluctant to update.
iOS4 doesn't suck on the 3G if you do a clean wipe of the OS before moving to 4. This has been a known issue for some time now. Wipe your 3G, then move to iOS4. I know plenty of folks running iOS4 on their 3G who absolutely love it. They have no issues with performance or it suck-ing.
If you upgraded and already experience performance issues, backup your phone, restore to factory settings, upgrade to iOS4, then restore from backup. Problem solved.
Agreed on the RR. Though I am ready for some FTTH. FiOS, uVerse, whatever. GIVE IT UP.
That's pretty disappointing about the AT&T 3G service here. I've never really thought of it as being slow. Guess I haven't been traveling much since I joined the 3G world.
My gadgets serve their purpose. If I choose to "waste" time, that's my problem. If I didn't have a gadget to distract me, I would find something else to distract me.
Often times, when I'm stumped and knee deep in code...a good distraction jars loose the best ideas of the day/night.
I wouldn't expect a politician to understand that though.
Seems to me that it's all part of Steve's marketing campaign... This guy probably never existed in real life and the guy playing his role will soon start shooting videos threatening to disclose more information, prototypes, etc a la Bin Laden and leaking them to Arab news networks from time to time so everyone at Apple is scared and work harder...
The guy exists in real life. "Friend of a friend."

Does this mean my Dreamcast is worth its weight in chocolate coins? Let's start the bidding at one hundred. One hundred chocolate coins.
