  1. Re:Tried & Tested on The Secret to Raising Smart Kids · · Score: 0

With all due respect I think you're suggesting your personal experience is applicable to all cases, and that you are choosing positive elements of your childhood and stating that they are the causative factors, which simply isn't a scientific process as its uncontestable. I am "smart" by a number of measures (and not by some others, but oh well that's multiple intelligences for you) and I had all the same factors as you had. I also had high expectations from my parents (in the "you're intelligent so you'll succeed" fashion described in the OP), one parent who was an alcoholic and the other who was a depressive. I personally think such intelligence as I have came from coping strategies for that situation as from the positive incentives. I in fact would support treating a child in the manner you suggest... I just don't think there's any way to "almost gaurantee (sic) you have a smart child".

Please, tell the community how your life has been impacted by this culture (sic) you reference. If we're to indulge your stereotype, the women you're not playing fair with (women interested in geeky stuff who you apparently feel justified in excluding) are a vastly different crew to the women who you feel alienated by. Discrimination is discrimination. Every bigot feels they have a good reason. Yours appears to be that you had (or are having) a hard time in school from the popular girls. You might want to be getting over that some time.

No, He created the universe with himself having that slashdot ID so that evidence of His creation would be obscured, and thus the people would believe in Him by faith alone. Well, that's what it says here in my handy "how to create the universe 10 seconds ago manual", which I put into action when I created the manual 10 seconds ago. You'll note that I cleverly gave myself the Slashdot ID 20171461 so that... Hang on, I'm seeing a pattern here... SPOOOOOKY!!!!

Just to be an anal slashdotter: Trudeau is a cartoonist who uses a fairly expressive style. This means he has pictographic representations provide several orders of magnitude more emotional information than your average emoticon. Thus he doesn't actually need to rely on text only to communicate his satirical purpose.

Most informative! But in this case "tard" is not taking the place of anything, it's a valid descriptor performing an honest function. I suspect that the person who originally used the word "expletive" simply doesn't know what it means, rather than there's been a huge cultural shift in the usage in the world in the last ooooooh five minutes.

I don't think Tard is a kind thing to say, but when did it become an expletive?
