  1. Re:xfce on A Look At the Lightweight Equinox Desktop Environment · · Score: 3, Informative
Yeah if it's a lightweight DE you're looking for, Xfce is pretty much the only logical choice. I also switched from Fluxbox to Xfce and couldn't believe how much lighter and faster this thing is than Gnome or KDE given it has all the same core functionality.

The number of tray plugins are sortof limited, but all it needs is more developers willing to help out with that end. I've never had this problem. There's quite a nice list here, but if that's not enough, you can always use Gnome plugins with it. Granted, a lot of people (including myself) refuse to install the base gnome or kde libs, in which case that wouldn't be viable.

Well. For one thing, Hardware makers do not want to code drivers for Linux because they are terrified their precious trade secrets will be reverse engineered, Game makers are not wanting to produce games for Linux because they are terrified that their oh so important copy protection schemes will be cracked. On and on the list goes. Maybe I'm confused, but are you saying reverse engineering binary executables and libraries is somehow easier if they're compiled for Linux?

  3. Re:nope on Details for Guitar Hero 4 Released · · Score: 4, Interesting
I've been playing the guitar for nigh on a decade (I've just turned 21) and I absolutely adore Guitar Hero, as does a guitarist friend of mine. To most people I know Guitar Hero isn't about pretending you're a rock star, it's just a game, no different to WoW or the FPS du jour.

Granted, if someone comes up to me boasting how their 5* on expert Cliffs of Dover was more of an accomplishment than being able to play the same song on a real guitar, they really do deserve a slap. One takes 8 months to reach a suitable level of proficiency, the tends to take more than 8 years.

Yeah, but now the problem is that KB is now ambiguous Nonsense! I think you'll find the Kelvinbyte is a strictly defined unit.

"It has been fostered by a single company--IBM. If it was not for IBM, it would have been business as usual for this standard."
I just got this vivid image of Microsoft as a stereotypical hooded villain shaking his fist and shouting "if it weren't for those meddling kids!"

    ... Business as usual indeed.
