Actually, I've tested this - a self-built box that I left on 24x7 at work stopped working one day. I opened the case to find that my Ethernet card had exploded (at least, one of the components on it did), spraying little fragments of plastic over the entire interior of the case and nearly frying my video card, directly above the NIC.
I sent the card back to the manufacturer bitching about their cheap crap, and they sent me a new card. I popped that in, and everything came up fine (including the video card, a Matrox Millenium II, although it was partially melted and slightly scorched).
Oh my God! Just think of that! Normal users not paying for support!
Since Microsoft is on the brink of bankruptcy, you'd better do something about the situation right away.
BTW, your response explains why the support MS offers to normal users is so awful. I have yet to hear of a person who called MS support with anything more than a utterly trivial question that was able to get an answer out of them.

Don't worry. Some people, for whatever reason, use the male form all the time. One of my (male) CS professors did the same: In every exercise where he described a scenario, both the user and the programmer were always a "she". I thought that was pretty braindead, but you get used to shit like that.
Now, to take a leaf out of Douglas Hofstadter's book:

Yahoo auctions here in Japan (I don't know about in the US, sorry) now require a credit-card number as a prerequisite for both posting and bidding on items, as the direct result of a rash of auction fraud incidents.
All of the various national character sets and vendor character sets are subsets of Unicode, so if you want to write something today you have little practical alternative.
Not true. TRON, for example, has defined its own character set that includes characters not available in Unicode (130,000 in total, currently). See here and here for more info.
Jeez, read his comment properly. He's replying to the parent comment that said that characters 0-255 are one byte, which is obviously complete bullshit.
I think the required changes are a bit too extensive for it to be a on/off switch (although who knows?). Also, it's not been proved to be fully stable on SMP systems.
Sure, if it's a workstation, but definitely not true if it's, say, a fileserver, where you'd want to maximize throughput even at the expense of latency.
Wanna bet? There's precedent for prosecutors telling defendants that they'll be looking at a long, drawn-out court case that will leave them unemployable *unless* they sign on the dotted line admitting to a misdemeanor. If you believe otherwise, you're terribly naive.
I had no intention of misleading people as to the meaning of the GPL.
Suuure.
I think it's obvious that neither I nor you nor RMS know the meaning of the GPL, since its meaning has never been determined by a court of law.
A court determines the interpretation. You were spouting rubbish that could only come from soomeone who either had never read the GPL (which is why I told you to do so) or was deliberately trying to mislead people.
Personally I think anyone who claims that the GPL means anything is misleading people, because I believe that there are loopholes galore with it.
Right. So no laws mean anything until the court determines what they mean, right? So how can the legislative arm of the government create laws if no-one knows what they mean? The whole point of legalese is to ensure the least amount of ambiguity. Of course, the interpretation is done by the courts, but a well-written law (or license) allows only for a very narrow interpretation. Now, with regard to the GPL, if there are so many loopholes in it, why don't you show us a real one instead of bringing up all this irrelevant bullshit?
Er... 301 redirects don't get logged to error_log, only to access_log (as would any access). Also, it saves you on file transfers if you have a custom 404 page set up.
Very nice selective quote there... it might pay to look at Section 3 as well, though:

3. You may copy and distribute the Program (or a work based on it, under Section 2) in object code or executable form under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above provided that you also do one of the following:
* a) Accompany it with the complete corresponding machine-readable source code, which must be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software interchange; or,
* b) Accompany it with a written offer, valid for at least three years, to give any third party, for a charge no more than your cost of physically performing source distribution, a complete machine-readable copy of the corresponding source code, to be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software interchange; or,
* c) Accompany it with the information you received as to the offer to distribute corresponding source code. (This alternative is allowed only for noncommercial distribution and only if you received the program in object code or executable form with such an offer, in accord with Subsection b above.)

This company is distributing GPL'd software in binary form; ergo, they must also provide it in source form. And you're still a trollish jerk.
I know the Tom's is always objective and usually leans towards AMD's side
I think you need to look up the meaning of the word "objective".
Bwahahaha! Nice response.

The plural of "Emacs" is "Emacsen".
Um, it should probably be noted that both the vulnerabilities described in the bugtraq posting are *local* holes only... which means no remote root.

Got the point yet?
From the context, I think he meant "ubiquitous"...
Great idea! How about these names too:
"Large Penis"
"Ass Penetrator"
"Excrement F. Brains"

[Sigh]
Hardly.
Testure compression is very common on video cards these days - it's certainly nothing to close drivers over.

Don't - that code is old and broken. The stuff in -ac kernels (and maybe 2.4.1[01]) is much better.

Section 2 doesn't allow distribution of binary code.
Hello? That's the whole point here, troll. If they're distributing binaries based on GPL'd source code (as they are), then Section 3 applies. Sheesh.
Why, because I disagree with you, or because I point out when you are wrong?
Because it's assholes like you that deliberately mislead people as to the meaning of the GPL. Loser.
