  1. Re:Biggest criticism from outsiders. on File Packaging Formats - What To Do? · · Score: 1

I think the biggest criticism from "outsiders" or those new to it would be ease of use; having some sort of graphical program that could: * Know what you have installed * Have some sort of standardised library whereby "plugins" (or modules, or whatever) could provide to the program the information needed about the layout of a particular vendor's default machine, as well as any peculariaties in the format of their packaging system. Sort of like the Perl::DBI and ODBC etc. That way, if new package formats come out. or a vendor changes the layout of their filesystem, then it would be a simple matter of changing the "plugin" for it. Modularised seems to be the way to go these days: kernel, jabber, licq and I'm sure there's others too.

  2. Some other good aussie bands: on Napster Bans Metallica Fans · · Score: 1

Spiderbait Regurgitator Powderfinger Sonic Animation And if you're a teenybopper: Savage Garden Killing Heidi I would have thought Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds would be at the bottom of the list of "Good" Australian bands. Sure, we don't have the enormous pool of musical talent that the US might have, but remember - we number less than 10% total population compared to the US.
