    I'll read mail that comes from somebody I don't know. If they want me to do X (visit a web site, pay money to anybody AT ALL, or anything of the like) than it's spam.

    BTW, the Sierra club sends paper spam. How ironic is that?

    You could switch ISPs and quit being such a little bitch. SPEWS isn't unreliable. They are like the fiery sword of Gabriel. Fuck the unbelievers, and the people who enable them. That's what you are doing by buying service from spam-friendly ISPs - supporting the unbelievers.

    Are you RETARDED??? SPEWS is an OPT-IN list. If your ISP is shady enough to harbor spammers, that maybe after you are blocked you'll convince them to chuck the spammers, or switch.

    You're actually implying that these shady umbrella corporations actually contribute significantly to FreeBSD. They really don't.

    Volunteer donations, maybe they help (although, being a relatively new concept in open source, I doubt it). Wind River or BSD mall don't help a whole lot.

    It wasn't until 1995 that I became a CompSci student, and found that completing my assignments was far easier than it would be on Windoze with Borland C or MSVC.

    In stark contrast to today's world, where about the only think that 'programmers' learn at the University (in the first 2 years of CompSci, anyway) is either MS VC++ or CodeWarrior.

    A few years back I asked an instructor of mine if I could use GCC instead of MSVC++ for c coding and was asked 'what's gcc'...

    This is true at damn near any public university, unfortunately. Higher-level students are often given a choice of tools, but not until they've had their brains retarded by years of MSVC++ or Codewarrior...

    AAC at a bitrate of 96 provides CD quality sound on my test systems (klipsch monitors, yamaha ns10 monitors, various high-grade headphones) where I had to encode MP3s at 160 to get the same quality.

    I'm sorry, but Apple is retarded for allowing BestBuy back into the Mac business. Apple used to sell Macs at Best Buy, and ended up pulling out because it was clear that Best Buy's PC suppliers were telling BB not to feature or recommend Macs.

    There was actually a lawsuit and a big stink about this a couple of years ago...

    How would you like it if you were a car manufacturer and suddenly a government would start producing cars and competing with you using taxpayer money?

    It isn't a car, though. A car is made of metal and plastic. An OS doesn't even have to come in a box or be a product. People are finally seeing that computers should be somewhat akin to appliances with the network the utility. China and Japan have been around for a long time, and see the long view better than Microsoft does.

    Actually, I have made an effort to assure that my Japanese accent sounds as generic as possible (Tokyo). Most non-native English speakers that I know of hardly make an effort to have their English sound correct. When you approach them about this (for example, Andy is not pronounced on-di, it's ANN-di) they get pissed off.

    It's possible to learn to speak proper English with a terrible accent. It takes a little more effort to learn how to pronounce our words correctly, though.
