  1. Sounds like Bush on Users Trash Wal-Mart On Its Facebook Site · · Score: 1
Check out the level of denial:

"We recognize that we are facilitating a live conversation, and we know that in any conversation, especially one happening online, there will be both supporters and detractors," she wrote. "We're happy that so many of our customers are talking on Facebook about why they like Wal-Mart. Most of all, we're glad that soon-to-be roommates are using our site to come together and make choices about their dorm rooms."
  2. The betas and rc, at least on MS Responds To Vista's Network / Audio Problems · · Score: 2, Informative

Ran just fine on my 5yr old 'Dell' (only the case and mobo) when they were out. I never noticed any problems. I used that box as my no.2 desktop and my home's file server/intercom-interfacing stereo. After I got a new box to replace it (this one -made- for Vista) I noticed problems. THREE TIMES it not only ran up all 3 of my secondary fans while pumping music thru the system, it actually killed its own power. Under a lower stress level. (The new box only runs as desktop/whole-house jukebox, the old one still works as a server, just running Gentoo/samba).

I'm not sure quite what the problem was, either the chipset differences of the two machines or program differences from the beta/rc to the final, but somehow the switch really nuked my shared audio performance.

  3. Now THESE guys... on Storm Botnet Is Behind Two New Attacks · · Score: 1

...are more like the "terrorists" the government keeps telling us to cower under our desks from. I don't spend every morning checking under my hood and in my trunk to see if some guy with his head in a towel (-- that was to make a point, not my opinion) has managed to sneak a bomb in there. I _do_, however, check my inboxes everyday to delete the 30-40 spam/infected emails that show up.

  4. RIAA not the liable party. on Foster Demands RIAA Post $210K Security For Fees · · Score: 2, Informative

Pay attention to whom you're making out to be the offending party. The RIAA -IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING HERE-, Capitol Records is. They're even listed in the summary as the party involved, plain as day. The RIAA just connects the dots. Company A owns the rights to bone the artists out of money they deserve for music they created. User B downloads said music, bypassing Company A's 'right' to collect money (and forget to pay the artist) on that music. The RIAA simply digs through traffic records (and throws darts at a board) to find out that User B has done this. The RIAA then gets Company A in contact with User B to extort money by attempting to scare the piss out of them. The RIAA is not in litigation - Capitol is. The RIAA won't be magically destroyed by this. (which sucks...)

This, of course, is why "under promise, over deliver" works so damn well in the office. Tell 'em it'll be fixed in 4 hours, drop it on their desktop in 3. They'll call you a hero. (I seem to remember Scotty telling LaForge something similar)
