  1. Threats!=protected speech on UK Teen Banned From US Over Obscene Obama Email · · Score: 1

I don't think threatening people is protected speech(completely normal) and I'm pretty sure threatening the president is illegal (not as normal, but why are you doing it anyway?)

  2. Is Wikileaks really journalism? on Newspapers Cut Wikileaks Out of Shield Law · · Score: 1

While most of these posts have been snide remarks of the state of mainstream journalism, the question of Wikileaks being journalism is an interesting one. After all, does Wikileaks really do much with the information they get other than show it verbatim to people? Journalism seems more about investigating events, or just reporting about events, but it is never just about reprinting the press releases verbatim. I'd put Wikileaks less into the journalism category and more into, for most intents and purposes, a link aggregator for sensitive issues(I realize that actually hosting the information makes the legalities a different ball game)

what's the trip with a bunch of Americans and ID cards? You carry around a driver's license don't you? Please elaborate on how an ID card isn't just like a driver's license, except for everyone?

  4. A great programming motivator on 21st International Olympiad of Informatics Opens, In Bulgaria and Online · · Score: 1

I tried out for the french IOI team this year(didn't make it of course, or else I wouldn't be looking at this I think), and really enjoyed myself just for the workshop and the tryouts. The other guys at the workshop were there obviously to find potential members, but firstly just to teach us programming skills. Not things like how to make a guess game or whatnot, but to learn "useful" skills, namely algorithms, complexity, and problem solving. They also have a site with programming tutorials that don't go too indepth in terms of language, but have very indepth algorithm explanations(which is good considering that most "my first programming book"s don't even bother with algos). I can't really vouch for other IOI teams' preparedness and teaching abilities(USACO has a training site though I don't know how well made it is), I can say that that experience really motivated me for the coming years.

  5. Or, instead of relying on software encryption... on 7 Secure USB Drives Reviewed · · Score: 1

You could just keep your USB drive physically "secure" i.e. keep it with you and don't lose it. If the data on the drive is so important that you need encryption, you should probably keep it with you anyways.
