So I am not the only one who typically chooses from those parties. It seems that either one is more concerned with personal freedom than either of the major parties. I don't agree with either on everything but they seem to be better than the D or R choices.
You seem to believe that it is more important than the others but that isn't the case. The reason is that it was the first of the original 12 amendments that was ratified by enough states. Originally there were 12 amendments that were all sent out to the original 13 states. The 10 that were initially ratified became the bill of rights while one eventually became the 27th amendment, and the other still remains pending before the states. Interestingly the first proposed amendment to the constitution is the one that remains pending from the initial 12 that were sent to the states for ratification. If ratified it wouldn't have any effect on the current makeup of congress as our national population and number of house members has already exceeded the limits listed.
How about we beat it into them with a yard stick (short meter stick for the rest of the world) until they get the point. Better if it has the phrase in relief on the stick so that leaves an after image on the skin.
I have often wondered if I had a shirt with some slogan that challenged some political party and wore it while walking down a street past their convention if I could be held, arrested, detained, relocated or what ever term they are using now. I do have some fairly offensive t-shirts and I wear them often, and most people, if they aren't looking to be offended, find humor in them. I have never been a fan of free speech zones and feel that so long as the protesters are not infringing on other people's rights they should be able to protest where ever and when ever they want.
An easier and more effective solution to shutting down the cell network would have been to shut down power on the rails. That would have prevented anyone from getting killed by moving trains or by falling on electrified rails. As an added bonus it would have probably prevented or slowed the buildup of protesters at stations. Here is another scenario if you like what ifs:
The FBI finds out that someone is planning on detonating a bomb at a specific large airport. The problem is that they don't know who the person is, what flight they are planning on taking (or if they are planning on taking a flight), or what day they will show up. What the terrorist is actually planning on doing is have a carry-on suitcase with wheels packed with gunpowder and ball bearings and go stand in line and when right in the middle of the security line detonate it. They have documents that are close enough (all fakes) that they won't draw attention from the other in line. The detonator button is in the handle of the suitcase, it is mechanical and was cocked by extending the handle so no wires. What would be the correct course of action for the government to take? Should they stop all suitcase sales?
And after the Bastille Day fireworks on the Champ de Mars I witnessed a small mother and infant almost get trampled as people tried to pack into a subway car there. There was massive overcrowding and you haven't smelt anything until you have smelt the Pairs Metro on a hot summer day. Point is shit happens where there are too many people, and there would have been better ways to prevent the problem than by shutting down the cell network.
Or a better idea shut off the power to the rails if people are getting pushed onto them. Granted I would prefer that the authorities just arrest those who are doing wrong but the next best option would be to prevent the harm at the inconvenience to other as in shutting down the power on the rails. In the above scenario shutting down cell service wouldn't prevent the harm as the rails would still be electrified so it solves nothing.
I have often wondered what the government's reaction to a suitcase bomb being detonated in a security line, preferably right in front of a TSA screener.
Agreed but any photo printing service will do they all are much cheaper than you could do it with. My wife just goes down to Target to get them done. You can buy the printers they use but unless you are printing all the time and using non standard sizes it won't be worth buying one. My father in law has one but he does lots of larger art prints in sizes that Target and Costco won't so for him it is the better option but for most people it wouldn't. The ink and paper are what will kill you unless you are buying it by the pallet like the stores do.
Reminds me of the first time I field dressed a deer. I had seen diagrams showing how to do it as well as a number of descriptions but actually doing it was much different. I can appreciate what biologists do when it comes to figuring out what the different parts do, apart from the digestive tract I couldn't tell what was what as most things just looked to be roundish blobs with some fat on them.
I might actually care if individual airlines weren't always going bankrupt anyways. As dodgy as insurance companies are they are pretty good at assessing risk and pricing it (with appropriate markup). Personally I don't feel that I as a tax payer should be subsidizing someone else's air travel. I hate to fly, it is cramped, uncomfortable, they nickel and dime you, and I am sick of asking for the whole can of pop and getting dirty looks from the flight attendant. The only times I fly is for work and if it were to cost more I may not have to travel as much or even any at all.
I never said that these people were a majority of Americans, a majority of Republicans, or even a majority of gun owners. I thought I clearly stated that they probably are not:
Unfortunately my experience with second amendment supports hasn't been that good, they may not be the majority but they are the most visible.
The problem is they are among the most visible gun owners and give responsible reasonable ones a bad name. They are like that problem family member that goes to get togethers, drinks way too much, and everyone feels embarrassed by. On the other side of the spectrum I have family members who believe that I have effectively murdered my children simply because I own firearms. Granted they all live out on the west coast in large cities so only people who they ever hear about owning a firearm are criminals in the news and what they see in movies. They can't fathom why a rational person would choose to own a few long guns, let alone why someone would would want a handgun. Also I no longer hunt with the group of guys who were the wacky ones that Grishnakh described. It seem every time we went out a CO would show up and one of them would be in violation of something, like having lead shot on federal land, not having their HIP certification, littering, not having the plug in the magazine of their shotgun, etc. You rarely hear about the good hunters or good firearm owners as they don't cause problems and tend not to draw attention to themselves.
Wow you got a response back from your senator I would consider that a victory. Granted it wasn't a response to what you sent them but a response none the less. Whenever I write to my representatives at the federal level I never get a response (Amy Klobuchar, Al Franken, Norm Coleman previously, and John Kline). I would love it if they would remove the party identifier from the ballot so that people couldn't just vote down the party line and actually had to know who they were voting for.
Unfortunately my experience with second amendment supports hasn't been that good, they may not be the majority but they are the most visible. A lot of them claim they are against big government but what they want is big government that they like. Quite a number of the ones I met believed that Bush was a small government president. These were the same people who wanted government to step in with he Dubai Ports World purchase, as well as the "Ground Zero" Mosque. These individuals also want bigger government to go spread the American Way to every country and seem to think that it would be a good idea to go into Iran. The ones like this I know also believe that Obama is a secrete Muslim communist/socialist born in Kenya who is going to take their guns.
If it was a free market then Comcast would have to negotiate an agreement with me for their cables to transit my property. If it was a free market then we would actually have several options for internet service providers instead of the select few that were granted monopolies by the local government. Don't blame the free market for ISPs being horrendous ass holes when at best they are regulated monopolies.
So I am not the only one who typically chooses from those parties. It seems that either one is more concerned with personal freedom than either of the major parties. I don't agree with either on everything but they seem to be better than the D or R choices.
You only need to go back about 150 years to find out.

I wouldn't mind that.

Those medieval armorsmiths must have been freaking geniuses or something because their chain mail probably does offer protection from tasers. Yet they still didn't foresee providing protection for something slightly older like a .50 BMG round. Now that I have that out of the way it shouldn't come as any surprise to anyone that the TSA doesn't even follow their own rules and policies.
Apparently insulin pumps do.

I had the same thought but you beat me to it.
I take it you have never seen the burn pile that so many farmers I see have. These things make 2 stroke diesel exhaust look clean.
Sounds like a standard genetic algorithm to me except with a crowd sourced fitness score. It might be an interesting project to see what could be created. And now for the obligatory XKCD comic on the subject

I thought erotic was using the feather, exotic was using the whole bird.
This really needs +5 funny. Too bad I don't have mod points today.
