The relationship between writing, reading, and science is itself important to understand. The emergence of modern science is a direct outgrowth of what becoming 'code users' (readers and writers) made possible in our minds and institutions. Learning to read builds the cognitive infrastructure critical to appreciating the abstract aspects of science.
