Even if it wasn't a miserable FUD attempt, I would say 'so what ?' E-mails are sent through the internet in fully readable plain text. You don't want anyone to read your email ? Then encrypt it. Period.
Fortunately I don't, as I'm running GNU/Linux and BSDs on my machines. So a little bit of common sense and frequent updates keep me far away from all this stuff.
IMO, more people should realize that a system that requires additional software for antivirus protection is flawed and should not be used.
WTF about all this fork stuff, the kernel should and needs to remain the same for the desktop, the server or whatever else, it IS flexible enough to allow every user (or distro) to configure it the way that best fits to their usage. Moreover, desktop users should use desktop applications and server users should use server applications on top of it. This has always been so, and features that benefit server users never did bad things on the desktop. This works both ways.
These are great news for the FOSS world, and I hope it will be for AMD too. This is one of the things the GNU/Linux desktop world was awaiting the most, and this will prove there is a real market there if AMD benefits from opening their specs.
IMHO, effectively releasing full specs, and doing it fast is not only a matter of "looking good from the geeks point of view" but a real desire of taking the GNU/Linux (and BSDs) desktop from nvidia.
Try surfing the web using an android / maemo / moblin device, or an iphone and you'll see that the mobile web is in pretty good shape actually.
you should have a look at the venus project: http://www.thevenusproject.com/
I've got a DEC MicroVAX running OpenBSD
