This is one of the worst help-yourself articles on NT i've ever seen. What's next? Oprah Winfrey's tips for Solaris? Jerry Springer on HPUX? Bill Clinton on Linux? (sorry if i spelled any names wrong...)
The ten things he names are for terrible lozers that should run win98 instead of NT, because they don't have more than a single harddrive and no network connection at all.
Like the stupid thing he suggest about giving your 'main' user admin rights. He really has no clue, does he? If a user is member of admins, all his files are owned by "administrators" instead of by the user. The whole point of creating a user account for yourself is to protect the computer from you and the programs you run.
Flaw #1 is of course that just capturing the analogue output and digitizing that would be a breeze, and the quality would be CD-like (at least, much, much better than what MP3 encoders claim to be CD-quality)
Flaw #2 is simply that some hacker will spent a few weeks and crack the security.
Flaw #3 is that the "storare box" will be either to big (heavy) to carry around as a portable player, or to small to be able to contain all i want.
Flaw #4 is that if the "black box" fails, you'll lose your data, without a chance of recovery. That wouldn't happen if your CD player broke down...
Flaw #5 is that you'd have to purchase boxes for your car, the bathroom, the living room, the computer room,... They better be cheap...
Just think of what a Dual-Celeron 400 will cost, and compare that to a dual P2-450. The performance may be slightly less, but you can spend more of the budget on faster harddisks and better Ethernet adapters, which will do you more good. If i'm budget-limited (most are), i go for the Celeron.
A Dual-Celeron is not what Intel wants you to build, but is also is not overclocking. The two just run at their rated speed.
Weird. If i just hop to www.slashdot.org, i get the "generic" page. Hit refresh, and i get my customized version (with the weather in Hell). Strange behaviour, anything i or you can do 'bout it?
Much easier than MP3 is a CD Recordable, which also plays in your home equipment, without any quality loss at all. So apart from MP3 let me give three more reasons no-one buys a CD anymore:
1. At up to (sometimes over) $20 per CD, you may think about gathering 10 friends and spend $3 for it each. $2 for the original, and $1 for the CDR copy. No-one ever explained me why i pay more for a CD that costs about $0.50 to produce (including jewel case) than i ever paid for a much harder to produce vinyl album.
2. Most modern music is total crap, that nobody would buy. So all they sell now are the "few good CDs" that happen to come out. Come to think of it, most CDs i (and others) got lately were "best of the 80s" and similar titles. They're cheaper and have better music on them.
3. Modern society offers a lot more than just listening music to spend your free time. Browsing the net, watching TV, playing 3D games and commenting on/. articles are a few activities i rather prefer.
I'm a happy NT user. Runs fine. No problems, no crashes...
Why ain't i running linux? Because contrary to the Gates systems i cannot install it in less than an hour. I have too much 'weird' hardware that Linux couldn't cope with (yet). I'm giving it another shot in a few months though.
For the Lunix addicts... who volunteers to setup www.realtux.com (or realpenguin.com). By the way, i think the American women all want a "realclinton"...
Pronounced by someone Dutch, it sounds like:
./ers to lame to find out it's meaning, i can tell you that only females have one.
Is Kut
And Kut has already been suggested. For

OK. I noticed the score, and thought, this one must have answers. Not.
The question was about the best quality MP3 encoder. And that isn't even mentioned here. Why the score increase?
As for the Windows flaming, i do DAE in Windows ALL the time, and just play Quake II or so while doing so. My load hovers between 0.05 and 1.5...

Please don't shoot me for using IE5...

Nice how they keep avoiding mentioning the fact that this broadcast will take place on April 1. That's hint #1.
Hint #2 is that the tape isn't coming from 20CFox. Of course not, whatever they'll be broadcasting will be their own invention probably.
It will still be fun to watch what they want the Dutch (and many others) to stay awake for.
