  1. Re:GPL + Web App = Confusion on ExtJS 2.1 AJAX Library Switches To GPL · · Score: 1

Another point of confusion, how the heck is the dual license thing supposed to work?

If I do go and buy the commercial license, does that mean I cannot use any community developed addons, patches, or content since they'd be GPL'd?

My understanding of the GPL is that once something has been released under the GPL, derivative works cannot be close sourced even by the original license grantor.

Or am I completely off base here?

  2. Flexibility Not Price on Moore's Law Is Microsoft's Latest Enemy · · Score: 4, Interesting

It's not price that cripples Microsoft in the mobile market, it's flexibility. As anyone who's used a Pocket PC or Windows CE device knows, it's the chained to the desktop mentality that's killing them.

The inability (well, ok, extreme difficulty in) to skin/specialize the user interface is going to hurt them. Microsoft appears to be mentally permanently stuck in one-size-fits-all land. And to be fair, it would be really hard to let people customize as deeply as they need to without letting them muck with the deep details of your OS.

Good grief, Government recording what people read on planes? Blatant lie. It looks like they just have a generic comment section the border agents can use to put in whatever the heck they feel like mentioning. And, being human, you end up with some odd random comments mixed in. What's next, some dingbat agent puts in some comments on some attractive woman's posterior and we'll have a Slashdot article proclaiming the government is profiling women on their attractiveness? This is the kind of thing that gives privacy advocates a bad name.
