The new HP Jornada 560 series pocket PC uses a removable, rechargeable Li-ion battery pack. A nice feature that I wish more handheld computers would use.
If you want small problems they can solve in a relatively short amount of time while still giving them a good challenge try giving them a problem from a past programming competition. They have a wide variety of problems ranging in difficulty.
