Same here. I'm even more definite I'm going in 2014. The incident has highlighted PyCon's diversity efforts, and much of the commentary in the aftermath has highlighted how far we have to go as an industry. I knew nothing of PyCon's efforts before attending. Once I walked into the exhibition hall and saw all the groups working towards diversity in the industry, I was stunned and impressed. Since then I've invited specific women to the Meetup group I run, and some specific women are coming. We'll have fun, take photographs, and hopefully even more women will come. Since PyCon I now find myself part of a movement. And I love that.
Funnily enough, I did actually make a private 911 call on a bus once, with the intention that at least the bus driver wouldn't know: I was calling the police to tell them the bus driver had just busted a red light, had mounted the sidewalk earlier and seemed to be incompetent, tired or otherwise incapacitated.
I could do it with a laser scanner (of the sort used to capture egyptian tombs) and a high deffinition projector I guess.
Or a digital camera? Take a photo of your post-it notes on the wall. Get it into your PC; into Visio or something as a bitmap. Then project it back onto the wall. Could get messy.
I have JourneyPlanner with me when I'm making complicated train journeys in the UK. It gives you routes between stations, and all the stops on the journey you're on. If everything falls apart, as it often does on the UK rail network, at least I know what other trains you might be able to use. I've often been streets ahead of railway staff with my little PDA.

Wish I had it, or even a picture of it. That is all.
This paper, amongst others produced by SPRU, might interest you: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/spru/documents/sewp176. I helped with the software.
