  1. TV rights to The Collapsing Emprie have been purchased and the sequel is due to be released in October.

  2. 11111111 on Can the US Stop the Illegal Export of Its Technology? · · Score: 5, Funny

Good thing there wasn't another attempt, otherwise the counter would've overflowed.

  3. Haha! on Gamer Plays Over 30 Warcraft Characters · · Score: 1

He plays with himself! I play WoW, but I thought one of the basics of the game was player interaction. I personally enjoy talking to other players and getting to know my guildies. The social interaction combined with play is what keeps me around. It would be funny to whisper a random character of his every ten seconds, see if he keeps up. Nahh, he probably runs around /dnd.

  4. The Name Implies on IBM Flash Memory Breaks 1 Million IOPS Barrier · · Score: 1

With a name like Quicksilver, it must not be RoHS compliant.

  5. Re:Recycle for the gold content on Fast-Booting OS for Usually-Off Appliance PCs? · · Score: 1

Labor and equipment are different items in a company's budget. So if they have no budget left for equipment, they just throw labor at it.

  6. Re:I'm no expert on Satellite Internet Providers · · Score: 1

Ahh, but it is all about the satellite real estate, you would need a geosynchronous satellite to stay in the same spot in the sky. That place is expensive to get to because it is so far out, so your satellite needs a boost to that orbit and be able to transmit and receive data at such a distance. That, and everybody wants a spot, good luck getting a geosynchronous satellite over North America without some big venture capital. Nano and Pico Sats are for research and low, decaying orbit projects, just because it is a satellite doesn't mean it can cut it for your needs.

  7. Lego permutations on Cool/Weird Stuff To Do On a Cluster? · · Score: 1

Run a program that creates every possible permutation of Lego bricks up to a certain size. Sort through the cool ones and sell them to Lego, say for a lifetime supply of Legos.

  8. Art from an annual class on Computer Art For a CS Dept Office? · · Score: 1

Start a class that would create digital art. Have two sessions, one for CS majors and one for Art majors. Teach some CS majors art (or at least multimedia data structures) and teach some art majors some simple programming and algorithms. This will give the instructor some insight into teaching people new or unfamiliar to CS so that they may be better able to teach the infamous CS I class. Also, you might want to use some wall mounted LCDs as giant picture viewers, that way the art can be changed at a whim (think parent's weekend and campus tours, sell the department).

  9. Grow bananas! on What Shall We Do With the Moon Once We Get There? · · Score: 1

I hear they are going to go extinct. We should grow them on the moon with special Panama Disease free soil. While we're at it, let's grow all sorts of rare and exotic victims of humanity's cornucopia. This might make bananas as expensive as saffron per unit mass, because of the mass of water in the banana. The water would need to be shipped to the moon, otherwise the residents might get some ideas and talk to a certain computer... ...Until some adventurers spirit it away with a pantheistic solipsistic device.
