MS is kind of admitting that Vista isn't what they hope, because MS where discussing Windows 7 (or what every they will call it) so early after the Vista release.
Vista still seems like a Windows ME to a lot of people. May be future service packs will reverse the view?

Agreed, a LAN provides security and segregation from the wider networks (e.g. the Internet, other parts of the same company) where you control the points. Direct connect to wire-less or the Internet is probably not the best move.
A company may comprise of many LANS, which is quite useful for controlling virus outbreaks, and mis-configured equipment.
I can under stand why the DMCA got passed in the US, due to Motion picture/Record Company lobbying.
But in Canada? Does the Motion picture/Record company have that much power in Canada, so this sort of thing is even considered for law.

Isn't this just the IT cycle, everything gets centralized, short term costs are saved. 10 years later decentralized, and long term costs are saved Vs short term.
Of course you're going to get a fast boot in a less complex operating system. Just try installing Windows 98 on current hardware and watch that boot, it's fast too.
The less you load the faster it will be.
