  1. Re:Careful Comerad, they listen always. on Nielsen To Offer Web Copyright Protection System · · Score: 2, Informative

TFA is more about identifying the content as copyrighted so that they can offer takedown notices- not to identify the source. The idea is to utilize the same system they have to generate the ratings data- just identify each program by the watermark, making it easy to filter by the watermark. In no way does this imply there'd be a new watermark for each viewer.

Additionally, TFA says that if there's no watermark, they'd generate a digital signature and compare that. So strip the watermark, and it'll take a tad more CPU to see if it's copyrighted.

The only REAL defense we have is to *cleanse* the big database of patterns and watermarks that they'll have.

Thanks to negotiations with the RIAA and MPAA, this new memory will automatically detect any copyrighted material thanks to an ever-updating pattern file which is downloaded and stored directly into said memory. This benefit requires you to buy 3x more memory than you need so as to counter-act the space taken up by the "Copyright Pattern Advantage."

No_op, offtopic, but I have no problem re-aquiring licenses. I'm not sure how Rhapsody does it, but sometimes Yahoo will lose rights or change the rights to a track or set of tracks- making it "purchase only," even after having the download for a month or two. Reaquiring licenses won't fix that. I think it may be a marketing tactic.

They already did this, remember? What was it now? Subscription music? It's all well and good, except that the licenses will expire at random, and then what are you left with? A half-read book that you need to buy to read the rest of. No, people rather own the books than depend on a shaky subscription service. That being said, I'm in love with Yahoo Music Unlimited, and would purchase one of those neato Amazon contraptions if they offered a subscription service... So I'm not against the idea. I just don't feel as many people embrace the concept of consuming as much information as possible as we do. Like I said, Yahoo Music Unlimited and Rhapsody (and napster) share a very small market - and even that is shrinking. I doubt it'll be around for long...

I don't believe this is the case. I'm pretty sure their servers are all located in Sweden, as they take advantage of Sweden's copyright laws to keep the tracker up when all others are being taken down.

Oh, was it that simple? Then why was the Supreme Court involved? Were they the ones doing the recount? It was a much more complex, messier, and horribly mangled process. I'm not going to write it all out for you, because there is plenty of information out there, but your version of how it went is not even close to correct.
Amen to that! Seriously folks- anybody who likes how the election turned out likes to over-simplify what the process was, and then call the people who are looking for real justice "sore losers" and the like. "If Gore would stop trying to recount the votes and admit defeat..." I don't know if you guys remember, but Gore never got the full recount he was looking for, because Bush had the counting stopped because it would suffer him "Irreparable Harm" (If I recall correctly). Don't even get me started on 2004...
