then maybe darwins right. There's a definate direction in evolution.
The neo-Darwinists have discussed this at some length.
Dawkins postulates that there are attractors in the morphology space that structures are more likely to form. In this way independent evolution of similar morphological features is inevitable.
symmetry
forward facing eyes for predators
side facing eyes for prey
so Darwins 'direction' is somewhat fallacious in being anthropomorphic.
Increased complexity is about the only definate direction observed.
windows single machien mutli personalities is still a crock
at least in 2k theres the
/Documents And Settings directory
but it's still annoyingly laid out
some programs respect the regestry, some use their own ini files
same problem all over the place
should stuff REALLY go in ~/.app
hiding those 'pesky' initialisation files
surely ~/etc/app would be a better idea
I just downloaded & played throught he Kohan Demo and my first imrpression was that it was weak.
units would not always do as I say when selected more then one at a time. Select a bunch of 'em and order an attack and some units would ride over and just stand there until you selected them individually and tell them to attack, annoying when you want to fire and forget, you go back to the battle and while one unit is getting pummelled the other is standing & watching.
On an interface gripe it let's you press buttons when that action in unavailable and yet the feedback telling you so is in another window (specifically : clicking on a blacksmith's while already building something and you are presented with "iron export" button which you can press which feels like it's happening but you get a "can't do this while already building" message in your status window. caught me out for a while until I noticed what was happening.)
Little things like this in a demo certainly don't encourage me to buy the thing, it might be more annoying in the full.
and I'm not wontanly bashing. With the browser war almost over (casualties on both sides) the sheer dominance of IE means cute little web browsing boxes on non x86 struggle to compete. Unless you want the WinCE experience!
There are already boxes around that are up to the job :

produces like Inferno or embedded linux aren't new kids they are mature systems.
the problem is software I'm afraid.
a good little web browsing box needs a good little web browser.
Inferno has Charon (based on NS3) and embedded linux has all the linux browsers.
Those determined enough can live with the hairyness but sit it on top of the tv for the kids and be prepared for "dad/mum/guardian the computer's gone funny" at least once an hour. (and that's from experience)
We're stuck with the saddest legacy of the behemoth.
They day you build the terminator program it go back in time and get IBM to choose a diff OS for it's PC and see how that one panned out.
IIS runs as root by default (or it did last time i looked - nt4)

Carriers know what traffic pays their bills, they have logs of all the protocols that they can muster. They analise them and then try to cash in on those services.
I think in this story the author is confusing copyright theft and freedom.
i hope that it's remembered that all measurements are +- something

for the wallpaper industry
Just imagine self aligning wallpaper that glues itself to the wall.
that should be simpler not simple
sounds like you've been using the wrong OS's :)
try plan9
an interface that couldn't be simple
you can even add new commands interactively
because all buttons are just normal plain text
plan9 is super consistent then
now that would rock
:)
there doesn't seem to be much movement on Berlin,
I've kept my eye on it for a while,
last news item was June 28th
X must die
that would be http://www.berlin-consortium.org/screenshots.html
wtf.

well, ok
in this country that in itself is a crime!
i'd use this service if the catalogue was deep enough.

nice try but wrong thinking
all they would have to do is get 'reasonable cause' and a friendly judge to issue them with some sort of warrant.

oh bugger, I've made an arse of myself,
I've gone and downloaded OpenLinux3.1
in my enthusiasm.
must've been early morning
i've got a spare box waiting for an OS so I'm gonna burn a cd and give it a try.

NT? New Technology? I'm told that's the same expansion as the NT in Windows NT
NT in WinNT in fact comes from the notion in 386 processors of Nested Threads. x386 and over have an NT register.
I think the rest came from Marketing
uninterestingly enough the splash screen for 2k says "Based on NT Technology"
so 2k is based on New Technology Technology
there is also one extra big difference
IIS runs as root by default (or it did last time i looked - nt4)

hehe thanks to all those who corrected my mistake
:) and didn't look too closely.
being as I don't use office or outlook et. al. I fell for the FUD elsewhere
I put my faith in virus scanners on my Windows boxes.
they must catch 1 a week from incoming email attachements from people we know!
you could do the
copy save game folder
join open game drop staff
quit
copy save folder back to original
join open game,
pick up staff
you now have 2 (maybe - i've not tried with with the staff but it works with all the other objects (hmm wonder if it works with the cube?)
