  1. Old news... on Kids, Computers And Authority · · Score: 1

The generation they are concentrating on is not the generation of interest. I believe that it is the people in the 25-35 range that actually have both an understanding of how to use computers and the internet with an added bonus of knowing how the internals work as well. I think it is unfortunate but I don't believe that the younger generation has much incentive to look under the hood. With the lack of interest in Computer Science that colleges are seeing as of late, I can imagine that the population that understands how things work, how to make them work, and how to fix them when they are broken is getting smaller and smaller. More jobs for us I guess.

  2. Agfa ePhoto CL50 on Which Digital Camera Do You Recommend? · · Score: 1

I have been using this camera now for about 2 years and I am extremely satisfied with it. It has excellent default resolution (1280 x 960) and a synthetic 1600x1200 mode. It also has all the things you would expect in a normal camera, like 3x zoom, macro mode, red-eye reduction flash, black&white mode, and a familiar form factor. I suggest that you also get a 32M card to get 100 pictures at the default resolution and a USB card reader to pull the pictures off the camera quickly. As long as you don't use the LCD monitor your battery life will be extremely long as well. Along that front I suggest you invest in NiMH rechargable batteries. They work great in this camera and are a lot cheaper than using disposable batteries.

  3. Possible > Badly Performing on Writing Drivers For Multiple Operating Systems? · · Score: 2

Personally I would rather have a poorly performing driver than not have a driver at all. Since with Linux I am usually in the latter category for just about every odd device around I think that something like this would make a great interim solution to a very difficult problem. Unfortunately, you would still have to write the driver in the first place because this is not going to just work for the current drivers on NT. Is this a good idea? Only if you are a company that is trying to be first to market.

  4. Yaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn........ on UPDATED: Transmeta's Crusoe Unveiled · · Score: 1

This is by far the lamest announcement that has ever been kept a secret. Coming out with YAIC (yet another intel clone) seems ludicrous. The only advantage they have to claim is reduced power usage! The power that the processor in laptops is consuming is becoming the power consumed by the rest of the system like the screen and hard drive. There doesn't seem to be any interesting work being done at Transmeta. Maybe I'll release a slower Intel processor next week -- I'll call it the P-II.
