Means more work for developers which surely can't be a bad thing
Ask your client do you want to support IE or Mozilla or both?

Sounds like a marketing ploy to me...
If they are serious about energy they could simply switch off google for a week or two - people would lose interest in the internet and go outside and plant a few trees.
