    A little, see this table for details. Southern California is densely populated due to its ideal climate. Unfortunately, the climate is also one of the reasons for its terrible air pollution.

    in Cali apparently you just crank the AC a little higher and wonder why the power bill is so high.

    Depending on the part of California you are talking about, many parts of Southern California have a Mediterranean climate. This means the ambient air temperature is near typical room temperature for most of the year, and makes heat an air conditioning unnecessary.

    Now that you've confirmed it, what are your thoughts?

    I think she was trying to say that there are people out there like Timothy McVeigh and David Koresh, that we should worry about. This has always been the case. Unfortunately, her description was so broad it ended up describing everyone in the USA.

    I also think that when the right wing is in control, there tends to be more left wing extremism, and vise versa. If she explained it that way, more people would understand.

    I agree that the document should be redacted. It really serves no purpose, as everyone knows those kinds of people exist. Her poor choice of words only made things worse.

    only use software on OS X that is bought from the Apple store. It's not a practical or useful policy at this point.

    For trojans such as we're discussing, no OS has a good solution in place, excepting maybe SELinux...

    If you use the Debian/Ubuntu repositories, I guarantee you won't get a trojan. Unfortunately, not everyone does...

    This is just another reason why DRM is not a benefit to the consumer and why consumers should *not* support DRM.

    Speaking of capable and inexpensive, did anybody notice the way those robots were watering the tomatoes? Does anybody else think that was an overcomplicated way of doing that? Why do the robots have to drive over to each plant to water it? Can't they just have some hoses going to each plant, with a valve that opens when the sensor says the soil is dry? Heck, you can build an EarthTrainer out of stuff laying around the house that will water your tomatoes automatically without any electronics.

    All of the parts appear to be readily available off-the-shelf parts.

    The base is an iRobot Create.
    The arm appears to be a modified Lynxmotion AL5C.
    Plus a generic laptop, webcam, etc.

    The reason why we can't do this separation is because we don't want to encourage rogue nations like Iran and North Korea from developing nuclear weapons.

    From what I understand, doing this separation would inadvertently violate a section of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Currently, several nations, including the US are looking for a solution. The most promising appears to be a third party (IAEA?) reprocessing facility, in which all nations could send their spent fuel to be reprocessed and returned.

    Lets take this a bit further and say that if certain groups haven't scared the hell out of people about nuclear, we wouldn't have so many coal plants in the US.

    While I agree that we should take another look at nuclear, I think nuclear did the scaring all by itself.

    I think the problem with carbon sequestration is that most of the schemes don't pass a sense check. Perhaps if someone were to present a detailed proposal about how it works, I might buy it. However, all of the proposals I've read don't make any sense.

    Examples:
    Bury the CO2 - Why won't it leak back up to the surface?
    Bury Plant Matter - Why not burn the plants instead of coal?
    Convert CO2 into some other chemical, and bury that - The laws of thermodynamics would like to have a word with you.
