I cannot believe I read this. You mean that you believe that I should have to WORRY about the names of the books I check out from the library? This is the essence of liberty and academic freedom, and you think it's ok to just chuck it. Why don't you just move to Nepal or Iran? Have you ever heard of Big Brother or thought control?
The right wing typically makes these kinds of assertions. The right wing has been crippling public education for decades. Now, after all their hard work, they get to claim the credit! A broken education system!
They also get to claim that government does not work, after they destroyed all the regulatory mechanisms.

They broke up ATT in 1984. It's BAAACK, bigger and badder. Standard Oil was broken up in the early 1900s. Now there are 3 major oil companies who work in collusion with one another and are raking in obscene profits while war rages in Iraq and we pay nearly $4 per gallon at the pump. Global media is controlled by 5+- corporations. There is NO effective antitrust law. America is ruled by corporate oligopolies and monopolies.
Competition is for schmucks. Cooperation yields the highest effective gains for humanity and our mother earth (and earthshaking profits, have you a mind to rape your neighbor.)

For, you see, there is not just economic "left" and "right". Another axis exists: authoritarianism and libertarianism. In other words, for math geeks, two political axes exist, not just one.
